I will add one aside to your compendium, here:

In hindsight, the journalists did an amazing job with the investigation. They were generally accurate (for the most part), and adamantly prosecuted in the proper role of the Fourth Estate. The administration threw everything they could at the journalists, but they prevailed. They showed they're a critical component in the maintenance & health of our democracy.

I hope these events motivated & enthused a few kids to pursue journalism, and bring new blood into the fold.

Another bottom line here: A ton of crimes, if X steps are taken but the crime is not completed, can be charged as attempt crimes.

Criminal charges is not and was never the focus: under DOJ policy Mueller could not indict Trump, recommend indicting Trump, or write that he thought Trump was guilty of an offense in the federal code without providing a forum for him to defend himself (ie, criminal court, which a sitting president cannot be dragged into).




The question isn't elements and it isn't proof beyond a reasonable doubt. It's impeachment. Now, he won't be impeached. The GOP would never allow this. So for practical purposes this is all just about making a record and then appealing to the middle 10% of the electorate who go various ways at various times and don't have their heads so far up Trump's ass that they're busy choking on golf balls.

Impeachment is about use of office for corrupt acts, or corrupt acts to gain office. If the founders meant by "high crimes and misdemeanors" that a president can only be impeached for a crime in the U.S. Code, they would have said so. They didn't for an obvious reason: it's a political process.




So **** the people doing their dishonest victory laps and **** everything they stand for. If they're willing to happily overlook corrupt actions simply because they don't want their guy to suffer penalties and/or just to "pwn the libtards", they're happily doing Putin's work: disruption, perhaps eventual disintegration, of American democracy.

Remember this in 10 years, then 20, then 30.

I've just about always voted D federally, and more than 50% of the time Republican in state elections. Mueller just puts the official imprimatur on what we already knew: the Trump campaign was balls deep in collusion with Russia. But because the Trump campaign never arrived at an agreement on how to collude and did not coordinate specific actions with Russia, it did not rise to the level of criminality.

But here's the thing that's so often missed in the noise:

1) Is it right for a Presidential candidate to welcome and encourage a foreign adversary's interference, or for his campaign team to meet multiple times with Russians to make that cooperation possible?
2) Is it right that that candidate and his team lied about their involvement or attempted involvement at every step of the way?
3) Is it right that the campaign members successfully destroyed evidence in order to frustrate the Special Counsel's investigation so that he couldn't determine the complete picture?

And finally:

4) In light of the three above points, does that person have any right to be President?

1. There was no cooperation. Moreover, the Obama Admin had no issue using information from anonymous Russian sources when it knew Russia was up to mischief.

2. Trump has said it was all bs for the past two years now. The perjury convictions of a few members of his campaign doesn't change the accuracy of the claim.
3. What evidence was destroyed?
4. A fair question to ask.
It would apply to every candidate in 2020.
