I think the idea that transgenderism is a mental illness is nonsense, though. I can tell you that if I woke up tomorrow morning to find that someone had carved a vagina into me, I'd want my dick back stat. That's all you have to do to understand why some trans folks go under the knife...they feel exactly like you would if someone carved a vagina into you (or plugged you up and put a dick on you, I'm making assumptions you're a dude)...except they've had to live with it all their lives. That conflict, or the steps one takes to resolve it, in no way impacts whether they can teach reading and writing to kids. Your "basic biology" comments are ignorant...this phenomenon exists in nature, therefore it is a part of "basic" biology, which of course has never been "basic", even before the transgender discussion. Biology is infinitely complicated...who better to teach that than someone struggling with that complexity?
Finally, the assertion that changing genders is "the in thing", as if it were a trend like fidget spinners or the Macarena, is preposterous. Given the challenges these people face on every level, physical, mental, social, etc., I promise you, there is nothing "trendy" about it. These people have to make massive sacrifices to find peace in this life, and if, even under that strain, they still have it in their hearts to teach children, then THAT'S the teacher I want my kid to have, vs. half these idiots out there that phone it in and wait for their summer holiday.
