Mexican Cartel violence: 22 dead in shoot-out near Texas border area

Simple economic solution, quit empowering criminal enterprise with our continued and failed 'war on drugs.'

So all our cities look like San Francisco? Have you been there lately? Looks like one big massive homeless shelter now.

Then what did Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy have to do with it?

We're talking about black markets. I used those countries as an example. I gave you banned books as an example.

Here is the problem with that presumption, AProudLefty: Even if so-called "hard" drugs are legalized, some of the most popular drugs cannot be reproduced elsewhere by legal means. For example, cocaine plants only grow in certain climates, notably in South America. And drug cartels will still control that territory, even if we make it legal. So who will we be buying our now-legalized cocaine from? Murderous drug cartels.

It would become a commodity like anything else purchased from these countries. I'm thinking that maybe a lot of those cocaine plantations are where they are because they had to be hard to find.

You don't think they could find new places to grow the cocaine if it were legal?

How would we do that, OrphanSlug? Because the Cartels seem to take over anything that makes money in Central America. They are right now in the process of taking over avocado orchards. Who knows, perhaps they will eventually take over cocoa and coffee in Central and South America.

Which means they are "going legit". Still, Prohibition gave rise to the Mafia in the United States and now the Prohibition on Drugs have given rise to the Cartels. One day we'll learn that banning doesn't solve the problem.
