We put so much effort into denying Darwinism, but nature tends to win in the end.

Science deniers, there's a reason the rest of us despise them. They are a ****ing danger to society.

Measles rate soars again: Now more than 700 cases in 22 states, CDC reveals

We've become the land of idiots.

Been wondering when somebody would put up a post regarding this latest piece of American idiocy.

A) We announce that Measles has been eradicated in the US (probably a mistake in the first place since you can't keep people from traveling)
B) We convince ourselves to stop doing the things that kept the Measles at bay spurred on a by an Internet hysteria of stupid

Not trying to make light of it either. New outbreaks of the Measles are no laughing matter as it is as dangerous a malady now as it ever was.

Great... an issue we had almost entirely under control is now starting to be lost to misinformation, bronze age myths, and absolute stupidity.

Thanks religion and anti-vaxxers!

This outcome flies in the face of conventual 'wisdom' that dictates that nobody can tell another person how to raise their child.

People who buy into anti-vax nonsense are too stupid to procreate, and not wearing a condom doesn't necessarily make anyone fit to be a caretaker to another human being. Kids aren't property.

Yes, and this anti-vaccination idiocy isn't a new thing. Not one study, and there have been many, has shown any link between the MMR vaccine and autism-and that argument appears to be at the root of the antipathy. What's the betting that a good proportion of them are home-schooled 'christians'?
These people are both ignorant and stupid, and as you correctly say, a real danger to society.

What will be interesting to see is if the country can muster the kind of steadfast adherence to vaccination that was so successful because it will literally take that sort of effort to get it done. Measles is a nasty nasty thing to put down. The gestation period is on the long end....people tend to have traveled from exposure to outbreak and the risks especially to the young are substantial.

My very first thought when hearing of the anti-vexxing campaign was "Oh God No....please tell me this is all a bad dream".

Think of it this way. You were vaccinated and you dutifully vaccinated your kids so you have nothing to worry about. On top of that, all the anti-vaxers and religious nuts you hate so much are going to die horrible deaths so, bottom line, you should be happy!

For the 900th time I must explain that vaccinations are not 100% effective, and don't always last forever. Learn this, and you'll be confused less often.

Their kids are going to die horrible deaths, rather.

How many times do you people have to be reminded of herd immunity. Ignorance is the real disease.

We need to make it more difficult for anti-vax woo woos to operate in society.

Nothing is ever 100% effective, but you would deride it because it doesn't meet that criterion? The contraceptive pill fails, the HPV vaccine fails but these are tiny minorities and statistically insignificant. There is not one good reason for not vaccinating against a potential killer.
Unlike the antis I wasn't stupid enough to allow my child to be at risk of developing encephalitis or pneumonia, just because of some idiotic biblical imperative or sheer ****ing stupidity. Or both.

Ah, so you don't understand how vaccinations work. I am not surprised. But, please read below so that this ignorance comes to an end.

The problem isn't simply confined to those children not vaccinated. The more we see the disease spread among unvaccinated persons, the greater the chance that the virus will mutate and overcome currently-used vaccines.

Sir, I tend to respect if disagree with your posts. But this one is so ****ing stupid...let me count the ways.

1: As others have mentioned, the vaccine is not 100 % effective, and people not vaccinating their kids leads to greater risk both for the unvaccinated, and for those the vaccine does not work on.
2: No one wishes death on these poor kids.
3: The kids are not anti-vaccination, it is their parents.
4: As it bears repeating, no one is actually wishing death on the kids exposed to measles

It's not often I can find I am in agreement with a liberal, but there are times I can agree, this is one of those times.

I haven't "derided" ****.

We shouldn't have let all those illegals into the country. But, you people want open borders, so you can import more Democrat voters.

Most Latinos are religious, anti-abortionists. Why can't the Republicans recruit them? Oh, I know. It's because the GOP is too busy appealing to racists.

I cannot disagree. I wish I could remember where I saw it - there was a news piece I saw on anti-vaxers - the rumor that vaccines caused autism I believe started with something as stupid as a random facebook post.

It's ****ing negligence to refuse to get vaccines. I hope people start getting fined and going to jail.

No. Not happy when anyone dies. Not even you, my friend!

We want you to live and provide us with posts that elicit deep thought and the opportunity for our always witty repartee!
