McConnell says Trump will sign funding bill, declare a national emergency

Are you having a hard time understanding what not really paid attention to means?

Again, something can be there, and no one pays attention to it, doesn't mean it's not there....you realize that right?

Like I said, you can argue the TIMING of the national emergency, absolutely, but to pretend that it wasn't there before because you just heard about it now....I dunno about that....seems a bit convenient, just like you want to argue that the timing is convenient for Trump

So you can't find those posts, either. Good thing you didn't spend time looking. They don't exist.

Because the "national emergency" didn't happen until Trump realized he lost control of Congress and now needed to pretend there is one.

All the smart kids know that already.

In my opinion, congress really ****ed this up.

They had a chance to do A LOT to reform our immigration system, secure our border, and deal with DACA. Trump wants funding to build about another 300 miles of "wall"...

Border wall: Trump seeks $18 billion for border wall with Mexico

The price tag is in on President Trump's much-ballyhooed border wall with Mexico: $18 billion.

Trump's administration asked Congress on Friday to set aside that amount over the next 10 years to build or extend the nearly 700-mile barrier that became a signature 2016 presidential campaign pledge.

The estimate is the most detailed accounting yet of how much it will cost to make the border wall a reality.

The proposal by Customs and Border Protection calls for 316 miles of additional barrier by September 2027, bringing total coverage to 970 miles, or nearly half the border, according to the Associated Press, citing an unnamed U.S. official with direct knowledge of the matter.

It also calls for 407 miles of replacement or secondary fencing, said the official, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the plan has not been made public.

... 18 billion for a wall that Customs and Border Protection is calling for. 18 billion is chump change relative to 4+ trillion in annual spending. There was an opportunity here to reform immigration AND solve the DACA problem and it only would have cost an additional 300 miles of wall that the experts say is needed, anyway.

Now look where we are. We've got no wall, we've got no immigration reform, and we've still got a DACA problem. We've also got a President who's about to set a dangerous precedent which WILL come back to haunt us some day soon.

So this is me giving the middle finger to congress for ****ing this up and to the President for taking that **** up and ****ing it up even more.

Lol, you waited until the Democrats controlled the house to tell Congress to **** itself.

2 years of Republican control of the WH, Senate and House, and only now that Republicans have some cover for not building a wall, do you suddenly decide that the problem is "congress".

The only people who will cosign your rant are the people who thought Trump would Mexico to pay for the wall. I for one HOPE that Trump WILL pull the trigger. Democrats already outnumber Republicans by 12M as opposed to 2 years ago where they outnumbered by 6. Do you know the lightning rod this will be 2020?

It's a bit too late to try and become the neutral party, Jack.

Get real.

Because he's trying to save the GOP's butt by not allowing another very damaging shut down.

Is this really going to save the GOP's butt though? What happens after Trump declares the national emergency and the courts block it... another shut down?

I've told congress to **** itself plenty of times. You just built your reply on a false premise.

Congrats.

How many of you Trump supporters would back him up if said he was declaring abortion illegal due to "national emergency"?
All marijuana legalization laws cancelled and pot declared a major felony due to a "national emergency"
Social Security permanently suspended due to "national emergency"?
VA hospitals shut down permanently due to "national emergency"?
What about striking ALL EPA pollution regulations due to "national emergency"?
Full repeal and cancellation of all aspects of the ACA due to "national emergency?
What if he decided to cancel the 2020 elections on "national emergency" grounds?
How many Democrats supported DACA? :(

Lmao you didn't - it's cute to say you did though. Do you want me to show everyone how?

You told them that with votes?

I assume you told the Republicans who controlled Congress for a decade to go **** themselves by voting for the Democrat?

In Wisconsin in 2018, Democrats won every statewide election. Only GOP gerrymandering stopped them from taking back the state legislature.

And in general elections, Democrats are typically stronger than they are in midterms.

So ... there is some reason to be optimistic in the midwest. Trump is hammering his voters here with his trade war. And now that sugar high from his tax cuts has worn off and it is clear that the tax cut winners are wealthy stockholders, GOP support should get softer and softer.

There is still a solid base who will forgive Trump anything, but he needs more than them to retain the White House. And Wisconsin at least will likely be voting for change. I doubt we're that different from the rest of the midwest so there really is reason for hope.

I have heard a lot of dairy famers in WI are losing their farms and doing very bad in the trade wars. It's really sad.

So you are not able to realize that something can be there.....not talked about, not paid attention to, but still be there?

Amazing, I didn't think you would actually double down on not being able to tell the difference between something being there, and something being paid attention to,

Honestly, thought you were smarter than that.

I hadn't known about that particular bit. If that is the case, then Trump does indeed have the authority to declare a national emergency on this issue and the courts will not go against him on this. Obama himself admitted that the executive branch does not have the funds or resources to handle all the illegal immigrants and as such made policy based on only going after those that have committed serious crimes. That in itself is sufficient to show "such magnitude or exhibits such other characteristics that effective administration of the immigration laws of the United States is beyond the existing capabilities” of immigration authorities “in the affected area or areas.”

In the Youngstown Sheet & Tool Company v. Sawyer (1952) case, President Truman was declared by the Supreme Court that he could not seize the steel mills, after declaring an emergency during wartime.

If it couldn't be done then, it can't be done now under thinner circumstances.

No. He's safe until 2022.

He was up in 2016. Former senator Russ Feingold was the solid favorite to take back his seat. I'm not sure whether it was Hillary's SNAFU or the commercials reminding people of Feingold's vote on Obamacare, but his poll lead collapsed along with Hillary's and we were stuck with Johnson.

The good news is that in 2018 Tammy Baldwin won reelection by nearly 11 percentage points.

(But we have no senators scheduled for the ballot in 2020.)

Wisconsin deserves better.....

DACA was a change in policy not a national emergency

Because....Trump supporters and Republicans don't care about national emergencies, so they ignore them and don't pay attention to them? The party is in worse shape than I even thought.

You have 12 posts on this board and you just joined today. Curious how you would come to some conclusion about how smart I am after 12 posts.

DACA was not a national emergency and was never declared to be one. Perhaps you didn't understand his post and the words "national emergency" he declared over and over?

We're building the wall!

Wisconsin deserves better.....

Not necessarily ... we did help elect Trump. A state and nation which would elect such a vile person really doesn't have much claim on deserving better.

But hopefully we will soon step up and fix this.

So it's been a national emergency for decades now? Even though we're at a decades low illegal immigration, who commit less crimes than natural borns and legals?

I know you're smarter than this and I know you don't actually think it is a national emergency. TV Show President just wants to keep a campaign promise.

LOL love the games you like to play, they don't work, and are amusing for people with critical thinking skills, take your emotion out of the game, at least admit that you actually can realize something might have been there BEFORE it was paid attention to right?

As far as 12 posts, joining today, just because I decided to join today, doesn't mean I haven't been reading, it might be a big leap for you to conclude that though considering the amount of mental tricks you are employing to avoid admitting that something can be there BEFORE it is paid attention to, once you admit that, your argument gets weaker, it's understandable that you don't want to do that.

Oh he voted Republican, now he's mad the Republicans aren't getting their way, so it's **** Congress. Talk about taking your ball and going home.

I think it's a national emergency now, because congress has shown for DECADES they are either unwilling, or unable to solve it.

I find it hilarious that people are in an uproar over this President, and yet Congress seemingly gets a free pass.

Even now, Congress was given MULTIPLE chances to get something effective done, they can't even do that.

I think he can declare a national emergency to secure those funds, the bigger question is, what he does with them, if he spends it on a 2000 mile wall, then A. I think he loses in court, and B. loses in 2020, if he can demonstrate that the funds are for multiple parts of securing the border, tech, manpower, upgrades etc, I think he can make the argument that it's a national emergency based on Congress's inability to act.

Hmmm.....

I think that other poster was right about you. Argyle?

No, by the way. What I, and the people who are honest, realize is that there was no national emergency until Trump lost Congress. If there was one before that, he would have declared it. And the Trump supporters on here would have been posting about it for 2 years, demanding that he do it.

Or are you saying nobody "paid attention" to illegal immigration until last month?

Welcome to DP but something tells me......never mind.

At least you guys aren't saying "Finish the wall" anymore, lol cringe.

Wouldn't finish the wall be more apt to be true? It's not like there are aren't any barricades there etc?
