McConnell says Trump will sign funding bill, declare a national emergency

You're using your first 5 posts on this board to carry on about what he posts, and commenting on him "parroting" Donald Trump. Welcome to DP. Most people who join here tend to discuss topics, not other posters, when they first join here. I'm sure I'm not the only one breathlessly awaiting your thoughts on the discussion and not on saladin's posts.

Well, first of all, breathe, holding your breath til you are breathless ain't good for you.

Second of all, my thoughts on it? Guess we will see what happens, Democrats didn't negotiate in good faith, hell Congress in general don't care about getting anything done unless it serves them, they talk about caring for the people, but they don't act on it. This entire thing, is just another act in the play....do I think he will do it, yea, do I think it will hold, it all depends on how he frames it, if he frames it that every illegal coming over is a criminal, probably not, if he frames it that coming into the country illegally is a crime in and of itself, and that while he wants people to come here, do it legally, and what he needs to deter that is this, then he has a chance.

Everything else is just noise, but the fact that you don't take issue, with a poster calling other posters who might disagree with him or not the enemy, all the while BLASTING the guy who does the same exact thing, you don't find that the least bit amusing?

Would I be completely wrong in calling Saladin a hypocrite?

You are free to call Saladin a hypocrite. I can't answer what the moderators will do to you. You have to read the rules.

You sure it didn't exist before? People in this thread have quoted Obama making the same case about immigration etc...if you want to argue that no one brought it to attention until he lost the House, ok sure, but to argue that it didn't exist might be going a bit far.

I don't remember anyone in this thread talking about Obama declaring a national emergency to build a border wall he promised that Mexico would pay for. What are those post numbers?
 
I do have to say I love your posts. You are optimistic, and that's a good thing.

And I also think what you're saying here has a lot of merit to it. Wisconsin actually could point to a big problem for the GOP come 2020.


We absolutely will, we just got rid of Scott Walker so we are once again pro education.

And I live in rural Wisconsin and work with farmers nearly every day.

Farmers are pissed.

We do on farm kills and we have a waiting list months long to butcher cattle that are too expensive to feed.

There are a lot of people culling their animals.

He was up in 2016. Former senator Russ Feingold was the solid favorite to take back his seat. I'm not sure whether it was Hillary's SNAFU or the commercials reminding people of Feingold's vote on Obamacare, but his poll lead collapsed along with Hillary's and we were stuck with Johnson.

The good news is that in 2018 Tammy Baldwin won reelection by nearly 11 percentage points.

(But we have no senators scheduled for the ballot in 2020.)
 
Can you prove he doesn't have the grounds to use it? Can you prove any of your statements?

I believe it will be successfully argued that Trump is usurping Congress's Constitutional power of the purse, and that the "national emergency" here is the existence of checks and balances. I assume the legal arguments will be more nuanced than this, but that is what it will boil down to in essence.

Nope. But the idea that Trump isn't just following in Obama's footsteps in terms of stretching the Imperial Presidency way beyond it's place is laughable.

I seem to recall warning y'all back during the I Have A Pen And A Phone days that you would not like this precedent when it was applied by the next GOP President.

There will be no election in 2020. The emergency will last long enough to insure that Trump never has to give up powrr.

Are you having a hard time understanding what not really paid attention to means?

Again, something can be there, and no one pays attention to it, doesn't mean it's not there....you realize that right?

Like I said, you can argue the TIMING of the national emergency, absolutely, but to pretend that it wasn't there before because you just heard about it now....I dunno about that....seems a bit convenient, just like you want to argue that the timing is convenient for Trump

Of course, Obama was the first President to ever issue Executive Orders. And these were definitely the words of a man who declared a national emergency because he made a false promise to his clueless supporters.

"We’re not just going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we’re providing Americans the kind of help they need. I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone,” Obama said Tuesday as he convened his first Cabinet meeting of the year.

Obama continued: ”And I can use that pen to sign executive orders and take executive actions and administrative actions that move the ball forward in helping to make sure our kids are getting the best education possible, making sure that our businesses are getting the kind of support and help they need to grow and advance, to make sure that people are getting the skills that they need to get those jobs that our businesses are creating.”
