Mask

The goal of the mask isn't to protect the healthy person. It's to stop the sick people from spreading it.

People who get the virus are contagious but asymptomatic for up to a week. They will be going out and infecting others. If everyone wore a mask, then the virus would spread more slowly.

I tend to agree. But what masks? Will everyone wear effective masks? N-95 masks are now relegated for healthcare professionals. Other masks might mitigate, but not prevent an infected person from spreading the virus.

Don't let the perfect become the enemy of the good. An N95 mask is best. But even a homemade mask is better than nothing. Even tying a bandana over your mouth and nose will help.

In my post #15, I reposted a Youtube video showing how to make a mask from a bandana and two large rubber bands.

This assumes masks are responsible for the results seen on the graph. Many other factors are involved.

No one is suggesting masks are a silver bullet. But along with hand-washing and physical distancing they are an important part of an overall CV19 defense.

The big difference is that the masks only work when everyone wears them.

The link to the homemade mask above doesn't mention two points

1) Once you place the mask over face, don't touch it until your ready to take it off.

2) Wash mask after each use.

I was at Walmart today, the numbers of people wearing masks is growing ..I even saw people with bandannas. This isn't rocket science people, its simple common sense

When they showed news clips from China, everybody was wearing masks. So how come they can achieve that there but not here?

Excellent question ..competence might have something to do with it.

Make one for yourself ..any kind of a barrier is better than nothing.

No, the position should be to get the most protective paper masks, not some handkerchief.

An analysis by mask use showed ILI (Influenza like illness) and laboratory-confirmed virus were significantly higher in the cloth masks group compared with the medical masks group. Penetration of cloth masks by particles was almost 97% and medical masks 44%.

"better than nothing" is as low a standard as you can get.
