Ther are several Republican congresspeople out there saying they will not allow federal funds to be used to replace the Baltimore bridge. Some just say no and some are saying use other funds like those for electric cars or cut other budgets. All in all it reminds me of what happened years ago. A huge storm slammed into the Northeast coast causing severe damage. A Federal legislator from Texas refused to vote for money to help the region saying it should be up to the states to help themselves and why should the people of Texas have to help pay for the damage. In less than a year Texas was hit by a hurricane and this same Texas Federal Legislator came hat in hand to the Feds begging for money. These Republican' congressman should just shut the hell up and help not only the people of Baltimore replace the bridge, but also reopen one of our country's largest ports as it is important to all of the people of this country. Also, the next problem may occur in their area and then they will be the ones asking for help.

It is just wild. Same shit when they did not want to send federal funds to NJ and NY for the Hurricane.
Same states that take the money from the big GDP states like NY and NJ.

Mother****ers.

It goes back to empathy. And as much some want to "both sides" literally everything in this country, refusing to provide aid to political adversaries after disasters is a uniquely conservative trait.

The primary reason Republicans oppose it is because Biden said he approved of it. The only "vision" Republicans have is to stymie or reverse anything Democrats are doing or approve of. The myopic GOP has no view that goes to the American horizon. None whatsoever.

They aren't the brightest bulbs in an admittedly-dim package, are they?

The closure of the port of Baltimore will have ripple effects that hurt most if not all of the rest of the country - and not just consumers but also businesses, which means workers and local economies....

"Also, the next problem may occur in their area and then they will be the ones asking for help."

They have no shame. They'll hold their hands out and be indignant as all get-out, if Federal help isn't forthcoming - immediately.

It seems to be a uniquely Christian trait.

Yep.

I'd hazard a guess that some of these GOPers also believe tanking local economies will help Republicans in November.

I never liked Obama but when NJ had to be rebuilt and NJ had a republican governor he left that shit at the door.

Red dead-beat states drain FEMA more than blue states.

Which, of course, is what a politician, including the President, is supposed to do.

It's sad when we think a politician's acting in this manner is exceptional.

We wouldn't if not for Trump.
This always was the norm.
It was Trump that introduced the concept of ****ing over Americas if their state did not vote for him.

Most likely but it could be tied up in court for quite a while. The port loses $15mil a day until it's up and running.

It will be quite awhile before a new bridge is completed anyway. I think the port should be open as soon as the channel is cleared?

Get your shit together, Republicans. We are the UNITED States of America.

Insured? Yes, of course. But every policy has a limit of coverage and doubt any insurer takes on the risk of let's say a 5 billion dollar single loss.

Then the multi-billion dollar shipping company would have to make up the shortfall.

How many years do you think that would involve?

Not that it matters. The bridge has to be repaired/replaced ASAP, so that the port can be up and running ASAP. That entails Federal funds, some from existing sources and the rest from Congress.

We'll see how much GOPers in the House and the Senate give a damn about Americans and the nation.

Not to mention G O V E R N I N G

Why not use all that infrastructure money?

It used to be the obvious thing to do but apparently humanity empathy and common decency isn't reflexive for certain groups anymore.
