Looking at someone for more than 5 seconds is creepy.

I never knew that...

Netflix has reportedly banned workers from looking at each other for more than five seconds as part of its new anti-harassment rules. The new policy also bans the company’s film crews from asking their colleagues for their phone numbers, according to an article in the Sun.
“Senior staff went to a harassment meeting to learn what is and isn’t appropriate,” an on-set runner told the Sun. “Looking at anyone longer than five seconds is considered creepy.”
“You mustn’t ask for someone’s number unless they have given permission for it to be distributed,” the source continued. “And if you see any unwanted behaviour, report it immediately.”

I was raised that if someone was speaking to you you look them in the eye and respect them.

Didn't know I was raised to be a creepy harasser... sheesh.

I expect that rule will be when that person is not the person talking and more of when the other person is across the table eating and the person looking is looking for extended periods of time. That is creepy, add in some winking and licking of lips to make it perverted

No doubt the creator of this new rule would be a divorced feminist between 45 and 55.

I never knew that looking at someone, and making eye contact while they are talking, is verboten. I had been told it is good manners.
Now to a more pressing problem. I had a co worker clearly stare at my breasts yesterday. How do I prove it? (serious question, he really did)

We are developing a very weak and fragile group of people here.

Where does it say that? It says don't stare at someone, it's clear they are meaning someone you aren't currently engaged in a conversation with.

You can't really. The only thing a company can do is either take yours or your coworkers word over the other and that really isn't the best way either.

However, if that person you're looking at across the table has a big blob of mustard on their cheek but is so busy talking that they don't notice then it's kind of funny.

Don't day dream folks. It will ruin you

It doesn't seem to matter when others want to be offended just because. Have you never just looked at someone without meaning to offend?

Meh, does it say anything about eye contact during conversations or did you make that part up?

Would you have a problem with someone leering at your wife for a good 6 seconds right in front of you?

It's just common sense not to stare. Even Seinfeld understood this...

As a youngster, social rules and protocols were quickly figured out. If the lesson wasn’t absorbed fast enough, there were consequences.

Get some fake hair, glue it in a place it's obvious? :P
Get one of those hidden cameras and make video!

I violated almost all of them.

The main reason: no one told me it was a thing.

If you came up in the same time as I did, there will be bumps, bruises and scars to remind you.......more if you were a slow learner.

It' Netflix, they have been coming up with a lot of bad decisions lately. As to a five second rule: have you ever gone to a Mall or an amusement park and just sat down and "people-watched" as you rested? You stare more than five seconds and if you say no you haven't, I don't believe you.

Yeah--I am one of those "slow learners."

If someone won't look me in the eye, then I assume they are lying to me...

People watching is a favorite pastime; I can’t speak for the ‘fairer sex,’ but if two adult males lock eyes for more than 5 seconds, there will be trouble unless they are attracted to one another.

lol...oh, I never had a doubt you are a creepy harasser, Renae... ;)... Just kidding....or am I? hehe

I mean, on the surface this appears dumb AF, but I think it's the kind of thing that will be used to get rid of real creeps... If you're buddies, I'm sure no one is going to rat you out for looking at them for 5 seconds. But if you're a creep, then they have something in their company policy to fall back on if you act like a creep. I don't know if I can get too worked up over this one... :)

It sounds crazy, but NR doesn't seem to provide the actual text of the rule, and given their penchant for cherry picking and misrepresenting things to provoke outrage among the weaker minds...meh...show me the beef.
