Hospitals are often thought of as the hubs of our health care system. But hospital closings are rising, particularly in some communities.

“Options are dwindling for many rural families, and remote communities are hardest hit,” said Katy Kozhimannil, an associate professor and health researcher at the University of Minnesota.

Beyond the potential health consequences for the people living nearby, hospital closings can exact an economic toll, and are associated with some states’ decisions not to expand Medicaid as part of the Affordable Care Act.

Since 2010, nearly 90 rural hospitals have shut their doors. By one estimate, hundreds of other rural hospitals are at risk of doing so.
ROTFLMAO... Conservative states are losing hospitals in the areas where Trump voters rule the land. I have some ****s to give - so in the spirit of Free Market Capitalism I am selling them for a billion dollars apiece... pity I'm all out of stock, though.

Considering that hospitals closing leads to Trump voters dying, I guess I can say their pain is America's gain... and they brought this mess upon themselves, no less.

Hmm...

Not all closures are problematic. Some are in areas with sufficient hospital capacity. Moreover, in many cases hospitals that close offer relatively poorer quality care than nearby ones that remain open. This forces patients into higher-quality facilities and may offset negative effects associated with the additional distance they must travel.

Perhaps for these reasons, one study published in Health Affairs found no effect of hospital closures on mortality for Medicare patients. Because it focused on older patients, the study may have missed adverse effects on those younger than 65. Nevertheless, the study found that hospital closings were associated with reduced readmission rates, which is regarded as a sign of increased quality. So it seems consolidating services at larger hospitals can sometimes help, not harm, patients.

Rural Hospitals have been closing for 30 maybe 40 years.

This assertion is going to require proof.

From your quote:

Some people associate 9/11 with the US government perpetrating it. Doesn't mean that is the reason that 9/11 actually happened.

Here's what I know. All the health professionals that I have talked to started dropping medicaid after Obamacare was passed because of the difficulties that they were having with 1: getting the payments due to them for services rendered. 2: The government was lowering the amount that they would pay for things. Doctors receive less pay by taking on medicaid recipients than they do with private insurance carriers.

Good job, laughing at hospitals serving poor people closing. Do you get a kick out of the holocaust, the death march of Bataan, ethnic cleansing?

Just a truly kooky comment. Trump voters die because hospitals are closing? Wacko stuff....

What was passed in 2010? OBAMA CARE. Thank you Obama care again. Not only did I not get my $2500.00 in reduced health care I no longer have a hospital to go to. What is next?
God help us.

Before you laugh too hard this has been happening for decades in California due in part to unpaid care for illegal aliens.

If a state doesn't want to pay for its hospitals (even with extremely generous federal matching funds) then it's going to end up with fewer hospitals. Yes, implementing the Medicaid expansion and getting additional revenue to cash starved rural hospitals would've saved a number of them. But, you know, Obama.

So, why would they refuse Medicaid expansion or other assistance? Their residents are poor.

More attention should be focused on the absolute disaster Republicans have been in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Lousiana. Not just hospital closings but schools running on 4 day weeks. This after slashing taxes for the rich.

Tax Cuts Put Oklahoma In A Bind. Now Gov. Fallin Wants To Raise Taxes

Riding high on the oil boom of the late 2000s, the state followed the Kansas model and slashed taxes. But the promised prosperity never came. In many cases, it was just the opposite.

Around 20 percent of Oklahoma's schools now hold classes just four days a week. Last year, Highway Patrol officers were given a mileage limit because the state couldn't afford to put gas in their tanks. Medicaid provider rates have been cut to the point that rural nursing homes and hospitals are closing, and the prisons are so full that the director of corrections says they're on the brink of a crisis.

This isn't funny. These people are shooting themselves in the foot voting against healthcare.

Let's hope that enough of them can wake up by the time they vote next week.

Cramming more people into fewer hospital beds and making them travel longer for care... well I guess there are many ways to sweeten **** and make it taste good, eh?

They won't. Which is why I'm laughing. Schadenfreude for real.

One of them is expanded Medicaid but that does not address those that still (must?) seek EMTALA care like 12 (to 20) million illegal immigrants.

The OP said these closings were happening in states which didn't accept Obama's Medicaid expansion. Blaming Obamacare may feel good, but the most pain is in the states which refused to take full advantage of Obamacare.

From the article cited in the OP:

In rural areas, lower incomes and higher rates of uninsured people contribute to higher levels of uncompensated hospital care — meaning many people are unable to pay their hospital bills. Uncompensated care became less of a problem in hospitals in states that expanded Medicaid.

Before you laugh too hard this has been happening for decades in California due in part to unpaid care for illegal aliens.
Those are in rural areas, and right wing ****holes like Modesto.

Rural areas are petri dishes of cancerous right wing hate no matter what state they're in.

And this is a bad thing because why?

Nothing in your article supports your contention that theses hospitals are closing because of Medicaid, excluding all other reasons.

The Democratic Party and so many Democrats top to bottom continuously publicly declaring they want senior citizen Americans to die is not the most persuasive of possible campaign issues for Democratic candidates, is it?
