The architectural masterpiece from the 12th century, and iconic Paris landmark, is all but destroyed completely...there will be no "rebuilding" of this....nothing like it was, anyway.

At the start of HOLY WEEK, no less...Palm Sunday was yesterday...

Anyone who has ever been there, realizes what an astounding structure it was....sad, very sad.

Live: Fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris

The foundation stone was laid by Pope Alexander III in 1163 and construction of the building took more than two decades. It survived the French Revolution in the late 18th century and experienced a surge in popularity following the publication of Victor Hugo's novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" in 1831.

Europe already was demolishing their ancient cathedrals while building mosques. Not everyone in France is sad about France's #1 Catholic cathedral being destroyed.

Dumbest post of the month so far.

But as long as it has survived, eight centuries it did not survive the nutty upside down world we live in today.

Presuming that the genesis of this fire is the construction and renovations going on, those renovations have been going on forever in fits and starts because they have had trouble getting the funding required.

Notre Dame is far more of a French historical site and monument than it is a Catholic historical site and monument. Yet they could not get the funding to turn that into a seamless project. It just went on and on and on. The government owns Notre Dame and the Church is allowed to use it rent free. The stipend the Government gives the Church for maintenance does not even scratch the surface of what is needed to properly renovate it on a decent timeline.

Perhaps their own Nationalist binge will come in for some criticism as it appears that like us, they cannot see the forest for the trees! They have likely lost more in one 24 hour period than they can possible compute in the issues that are driving their protests.

As it is now, there is nothing they can do but watch it burn. Do you feel me USA.....DO YOU FEEL ME because whichever tragedy occurs here on our watch during this silliness that we are going through, it will likely be just like that. We will be forced to sit and watch the tragedy unfold.

The WORLD's #1 Catholic Cathedral...in many people's view.

DURING HOLY WEEK.

Hope it was an accident, especially after all the street riots by immigrants there....or it may be hell to pay.

No, your response is. Of course, a person would have to know relevant history so your message is understandable.

It was French Catholic forces that likely stopped all of Europe being subjugated by Muslim invaders and forced to convert to Islam. Notre Dame Cathedral, built 4 centuries later, was at the height of power of the Western Catholic Church. But Catholicism is all but dead in France with the most actively practiced religion now being Islam.

In a sense, it is symbolically accurate for Notre Dame to burn to the ground at this point his history since the religion that build it is gone in their country and the religion that would have burned down every Christian church 900 years ago is now the dominate religion, though nearly all indigenous French are atheists.

One hundred years to built it. One day to destroy it.

I understand that approximately 12,000,000,000,004 cathedrals were destroyed across Europe for exactly that purpose.

Why do you celebrate the destruction of Notre Dame?

You spelled 'year' incorrectly.

Your usage of single quotation marks is what is "incorrect," but understandable in the context of your message.

Of the many rules the Democratic Party has to be one of their minions is an absolute requirement to know as little knowledge of history as possible and to deny what little the person does know. Generally speaking, saying and writing stupid stuff earns extra points. Your messages definitely qualify you.

Definitely in mine. There are a lot of amazing cathedrals in Europe, La Sagrada Familia, Catedral de la Almudena, St. Stephens, and St. Peters Basillica come to mind. But seeing Notre Dame burning, this hurts the most.

So sad. It is always terrible when a masterpiece is destroyed. I hope it is not a total ruin.

French Police announcing that the main structure, meaning the exterior walls and the bell towers have been saved. Hope they are right. The rest looks like a ruin. God only knows how much art work and history has been destroyed.

Eight centuries and a building that bore witness to the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror and I mean actually bore witness....in eyeshot of many of those executions, plus WW1 and most miraculously, WW2. Eight centuries, almost 4x the life of our own Constitutional Republic.

Your self-professed immunity to ever posting something dumb is noted and rejected.

Paris Fire Dept announcing the fire is losing strength which of course only means one thing....its running out of fuel because it sure as heck is not running out of air.

Maybe a smidgen of GOOD NEWS:

A massive fire broke out at Notre Dame Cathedral in central Paris on Monday afternoon, sending flames shooting out of the roof and toppling its spire as firefighters desperately fought to save the iconic Catholic landmark.

A fire official told Agence France-Presse that the main structure is “saved and preserved.”

And all those "indigenous French atheists" who filled the street singing 'Ave Maria', what about them?
You don't have a clue what you're talking about. Not a dust. You're just pulling nuggets out of your ass and waving them around like discoveries.

There have been several cases of Catholic church fires and desecration in the past months. This might just be another.

Assuming the fire is under control, supporting the remaining structure so it does not topple is going to be frightfully dangerous work as they get about that business.

One of the silver linings, if in fact arson cannot be blamed, perhaps the French will in fact start to look at their recent binge of Nationalism and protest through a different lens as the government owns Notre Dame and has dragged its feet horribly in providing the funding for much needed restorations. As such instead of a run project they have simply done what they could on a shoestring each year and so the scaffolding stayed up and the "project" simply dragged on in fits and starts.

They really have not dodged a bullet here as what is lost is lost. A complete loss would have been a greater loss to France in a mere 24 hours than any calculable amount this current binge of Nationalism and protest could possibly surpass. Assuming the fire can be traced to the current fits and starts restoration since said fits and starts can be directly linked to the government's unwillingness to provide funding for the project then general national foolishness can logically be blamed.

The Nationalistic movement there has the same problem ours has....It can't see the forest for the trees and allows a minority to push risks on all of us that are simply unreasonable and foolhardy. Quite possibly this incident will shake the French free of their nonsensical nationalistic binge. Not sure what it will take in the US. However DonDon represents a bottomless pit of risk here. So stay tuned.

Well, history is "arbitrary", as the left seeks to rewrite it , daily.

They think this is an accident , possibly caused by whoever is/was doing the renovations.
