Light at the end of the tunnel?

Have you not read the posts on this form nor seen the news. Face it, we're all gonna die.

We might as well all be dead because this isn't living.

Well, truth be told, Covid finally had a direct impact on me. The ice maker went out on my fridge and because of the virus there's a huge delay in getting the replacement fridge I want. I've been relegated to ice cube trays of two weeks and have been required to compromise on the refrigerator I want.

Thank to Trumps level of national leadership - if you see a light at the end of a tunnel its most likely a locomotive barreling down on you.

Marie Antoinette, is that you?

Don’t you have an extensive alcohol collection?

Problem solved!

I'd much rather be alive and just watch Netflix.

Actually, I hike and play golf and could do more if I wanted. Life is certainly not ideal right now. It's pretty pathetic to think death is better than a few months of inconvenience.

I do have that going for me! It's even got better since this lockdown stuff.

You might find this to come as a shock but I don't give a rats rump what you think.

Good for you that you can physically hike, play golf, and sit on your ass and watch Netflix. Some of us are physically unable to hike. A walk in the neighborhood is as good as it gets. Some of us have gym memberships but are not allowed to use them. Some of us are considered the vulnerable and told to avoid the public as much as possible. We are not allowed to worship. I have not seen my grandchildren for 5 months. I have not seen my kids for months because they do not want to expose us to the virus. Everything that is dearest to me has been taken away. I don't call that living.

We are all in the same storm but in a different boat. I could also list things that I am missing. I've temporarily lost my two sources of income. I'm not sure they will be back. This sucks, but it is temporary. This is why I wish we would all get on the same team and do what's necessary to stop this spread. It's very doable. For whatever reason people want to keep fighting it.

I hear a lot of "This isn't living" comments from friends and coworkers so I get frustrated because their lives aren't bad. I shouldn't comment on your situation since I don't know you. I apologize!

If it makes you feel any better I suck at golf.

After 4 straight weeks with successively increasing new case numbers nationwide, we finally have had two weeks in a row with decreases compared to the prior week.

This pattern is seen to one degree or another in all the big-number problem states like California, Florida, and Texas, and even in Arizona.

It's too early to tell, but could we finally be starting to see a break?

Basically you're seeing 4 states (FL, TX, AZ, CA) starting to come down from their 6 week flareup. Check NY, MA, CT and NJ in April - those states were 'hot' for about 6 weeks as well.

The remaining states probably have enough activity to keep things going nationally for a while, especially if a few of them decide to flare up like NY/MA in April or CA/FL in July.

Thank to Trumps level of national leadership - if you see a light at the end of a tunnel its most likely a locomotive barreling down on you.

Many of us don't require "national leadership" to get things done. If NY could get their horrible problem in check without it, why can't CA?

We are not getting national leadership in this national health crisis.

Why are you dodging the question? What does Gov. Cuomo have that Gov. Newsom lacks? You don't expect me to believe that Newsom is following Trump's orders, do you?

New York got their problem "in check" after 35K people died. I wouldn't say mission accomplished just yet. The virus is making its rounds and New York hasn't fully opened back up.

We have 50 states with 50 different governors doing 50 different things. I think some leadership and better yet a national plan of action would have landed us in a much better place now.

Why? Every state is different. The EU has 27 different member states, and they pretty much all managed to get it under control without a single overlord to directing them. Some of them had a bigger problem than others, just like states in the US. Heck, even Sweden, which didn't lock down, did better than comparably-sized PA, NJ, and MA.

So obviously, what works for one place doesn't necessarily work for another.

What Trump orders?

That depends on how seriously people take a deadly pandemic and whether or not they take common-sense precautions; wearing masks, washing hands frequently and social distancing. Every expert in epidemiology will say the same. Right now those are the only preventative measures we can take.

Have you not read the posts on this form nor seen the news. Face it, we're all gonna die.

Yes, sooner or later. I prefer later, thanks all the same. The anti-maskers can do whatever the hell they want, as long as they stay well clear of me.

What Trump orders?

The orders that so many people seem to think he's giving not to wear masks, etc.

Or, you know, you can actually answer the original question I asked. If we need national leadership, how are some states managing to get the virus in check without that. What are they getting that CA isn't? How many times do I have to repeat this question for you to answer it?

What orders not to wear masks? I never heard of that.

Some states like New York have done a decent enough job in fighting the virus. Others have done a far worse job like Florida. The existence of a spectrum of success and failure does NOT negate the need for national leadership since the virus is a pandemic by definition a world and national problem. It does not respect artificial borders drawn by man.

With the way a lot of us have acted in the past few months, I suspect we'll still be Deep-in-it even after Christmas. I take no joy in saying this. :(

Honesty and Truth are Always best. Beats the heck out of wishing it away or "It will Just Go Away" POV.

What orders not to wear masks? I never heard of that.

I was referring to the delusion that some people have the somehow Trump has the power to tell people whether to wear masks or not, or do pretty much anything else, and the fact that apparently state and local governments (you know, the ones with the police forces that would have to enforce any behavioral mandates) are incapable of regulating that behavior.

People and laws respect artificial borders drawn by man, and controlling the spread of the virus is a matter of how people behave.

If the fools at Walmart could keep their hands off their masks, the numbers would decrease even faster.
