Regardless of the leakers’ intent, the revelations promise to heighten tensions between the two U.S. allies. If the UAE succeeds in damaging America’s decades-old partnership with Qatar, the result could dramatically undermine U.S. goals in the Middle East. The two American allies’ escalating rivalry could worsen conflict in war zones where they support different proxy forces ― notably Libya, which has become a haven for smugglers, warlords, and terrorists ― while distracting attention from bigger international priorities, like restoring stability in Syria and Iraq after the expected battlefield defeat of the Islamic State.

Wait... I thought Hillary and the Democrats under her faction and the Republicans under McCain's faction claimed and still claim Gaddafi had to be toppled by the US so that peace, love, harmony, chirpping birds and all that could flourish under a bright Libyan future of democracy. That the US wears the white hat (apparently, the Russians wear the black hat) so long as Democrats are espousing war, more war, overthrowing governments and so on, that the world is simply that simple.

Then how is it this pro-liberal, anti-Trump news article is making a Freudian slip and stating (admitting) terrorist groups and warlords (not democracy and brotherly love) flourish in Libya. Actually, outfits like Al Qaida, The Muslim Brotherhood, and ISIS have split Libya up geographically and politically and militarily run their slice of the geographical divide.

Further, here is an easy question that can be asked in any philosophy class: why is Libya divided and in turmoil if Qatar and the UAE were in alliance along with the USA when Obama and Hillary ran the show? In other words, if the UAE and Qatar were not in alliance, and the UAE and USA excluded Qatar from their alliance, then how would that make Libya any worse?

The article makes assertions without making any sense. But they did that with supporting the US Government's narrative to overthrow Gaddafi.

Though Qatar and the Emirates are putative allies, they have drifted apart since 2011 because of their differing reactions to the Arab Spring protests that year. As the largely non-violent Muslim Brotherhood movement gained power across the region, Qatar supported it, seeing it as a vehicle for the Middle East’s democratic aspirations. The UAE calls the group a terror front. With a new U.S. administration in power, the time is ripe for one or the other to push for American action in its own interests.

Oh, imagine a "Christian Brotherhood" being supported by European nations and America to spread democracy through their countries. Was it the French monarchy in history that supported pro-democratic rebel groups, in efforts to undermine the British crown, not realizing the democratic ideology would spread to France? I can't remember exactly.

The next day, Gates offered a scathing assault on Qatar, excoriating its support for Islamists, at an event hosted by the hawkish Foundation for Defense of Democracies. “The United States military doesn’t have any irreplaceable facility,” he said. “Tell Qatar to choose sides or we will change the nature of the relationship, to include downscaling the base.”

The powerful Washington-based foundation features heavily in the Otaiba emails. While many of those messages show the ambassador helping its analysts plan trips to the UAE, they also contain two of the most striking revelations about Otaiba: He explicitly advocated for moving the U.S. base out of Qatar ― something he hasn’t done publicly ― and he discussed the idea of pressuring companies in U.S.-friendly countries in order to hurt Iran.

An Arab’s Favorite Pro-Israel Group

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies spends much of its time trying to strengthen ties between Washington and right-wing political forces in Israel. But despite the UAE’s refusal to establish diplomatic ties with Israel...

Of course, its Russians and Russian lobbying groups that have disproportionate influence on the US Government, right? The above quote seems to give some indication that the people, the voters of the USA run little to nothing in their country, that democracy is really a sham. In other words, powers tell the US Government what to think and do, and the US Government then tells the American people and voters what to think. It does not run the other way.

That's all correct. The terrorists created in Libya, Syria, Iraq, etc. are the terrorists we need to maintain the war profits. The instabilities are engineered by the USA to create the terrorists and maintain the illusion that the terrorists are a threat to USA, down home Americans. Not having the terrorists is a threat to the Military Industrial Corporate Complex profit margins. Kill terrorists there so we don't have terrorist here, don't ya' know? Head games from the Deep State to you. This all started with 9-11 and the ready to roll, pre written Patriot Act.

"There is a time for every purpose, under heaven."

Right now, due to the internal conflicts plaguing America, I believe the best "Purpose" we could pursue, is a decade of isolationism, STEM Education, and infrastructure rebuilding.

We should withdraw from the Middle East, And Europe, And Japan/Korea, and let the world police itself for a while.

We should return to our ambitions for both manned and un-manned space exploration.

We should seek to replace fosil fuels with Algae based Synthetic Gasoline/Diesel manufactured with He3 Fusion and Thorium-Ion Nuclear Power.

We should find the Cures (note plural) for Cancer.

We should develop Bio-Gene-Tech tank grown replacement organs for humans.

We need to develop innoculations/treatment for a dozen deadly pathogens that are semi-lose.

We need to pursue AI and security intel gathering, but also put limits on its application and possible abuse.

We should convert our existing fleet of Gasoline personal transport to run on Liquid Air Hybrid tech...and stay the hell away from the Toxic Lithium Battery All electrics!

We should return to being a Nation which respects the Rule-of-Law and the concept of Equal and Identical Rights and Protections, without reguard to Race, Gender, Sexual Orientation, .... and most importantly... Political Faction! End specially protected classes of Americans.

Right now, we Americans have allot of more important tasks to get done, than trying to be the World's Policeman.

I have been saying for basically FOUR DECADES; get our guys the **** out of every other country, bring them home, keep our troops & our treasure HERE until which time we are DIRECTLY threatened, or attacked, keep our nose outta other countries business, take care of our own backyard & invest our time & treasure here, and we would be better off by doing that.

The average US citizen has been fooled for decades into believing that the US just has to run around the globe being the world's policeman = bull**** propaganda from the politicians & the military incestuous complex ..............

there is a lot of crap in our adventurism but you ignore the lesson of pearl harbor.

The lesson of Pearl Harbor: Embargo an isolated island Nation, Japan, and they are forced to go to war before their energy stores run dry. That is why the Japanese attacked at Peart Harbor and the USA knew they were attacking there. They broke the Japanese code before Pearl Harbor and intentionally didn't deploy any ships in the North Pacific to make sure the attacking fleet was not spotted by accident and moved all the better ships to Midway and other ports. Reality sucks.

Not that conspiracy nonsense.

We broke their diplomatic code, not military code. Big difference

It seems crazy that since the dawn of civilization most human history included nations and people accepting the socio-economics of enslaving other humans as something natural and that must be done.

So, while I don't believe paradise can ever exist on earth, it does seem to me that most humans believe governments of all nations must naturally be plotting and cooking up wars and conflicts with other nations. That it must be done. But I'm not convinced it must be done.

Imagine a world--or even just the United States of America--investing most its time, energy, and resources into finding the different cures for the multitude of different cancers that plague humanity, plague American citizens and families. A United States spending less its time, energy, and resources on stirring conflicts and policing the earth, and more time, energy, and resources put into health, medical, and scientific advancements to help improve peoples lives.

Yes, yet there are times, like WWII, where if the good people don't invest in Military and security, the Ethnocentric-Far-Lefties, such as the NAZIS (or BLM!), will ruin everyone's lives!

We, America, should not have allowed Obama's Adventures in the "Arab Spring".

Nor should Congress have allowed Obama's use of U.S. Airpower, at the beck and call of the Muslim Brotherhood.

We've totally messed up the Middle East, and now we cannot fix it.

But if we stay, meddling, we can make it allot worse!

This is NOT the Season for U.S. Foreign Military Intervention.... Under Obama's Control, that approach has been badly over used, and Miss-Applied to aid the WRONG Sides in the Middle East.

It is time to get out, and step down as "World Policeman", we have been found wanting...

CT, the response invented by the CIA when questions of CIA complicity in Kennedy's assasination became rampant. Next accuse anyone who doesn't agree with the propaganda of being unpatriotic. Goebbels paraphrased.

So true! We interfere too much. With the problems we have in our own country, who are we to tell others how to run theirs?

What was the lesson of Pearl Harbor?

I thought it was keep your ships mostly at sea in functional task forces, and when parked, don't line them up for slaughter, among other things...

I thought it was, the Aircraft Carrier is the ship that really counts, and Battleships are Obsolete.

I thought it was, if you see a blip on the Radar, report it immediately, and if you get the report, always question it, don't assume it is routine.

I thought it was, if you are serving in the Military, we are always a couple of hours from a major war, so never let your guard down.

I thought it was, when a rival nation starts making noises of war, believe them.

I thought it was, surprize attacks can do massive damage, so never let your watch towers stop watching.

I thought there were dozens of lessons from Pearl Harbor....

There is a huge difference between Isolationism, and letting your military guard down.

On the scale of massive foreign intervention in multiple countries and theatres... we need to stand down, shifting heavily toward non-intervention.

That should change nothing about plans to rebuild/train the military and stay on guard!

One of the major steps America needs to take, to be prepared for any future war, is bring HEAVY INDUSTRY back to America!
