LA County Sheriff orders gun stores to close; adds 1,300 deputies to patrol

Suicide prevention ?

Good on LA County.

Unless anyone here has run a county of over 9 mil, let the sheriff do his job.

"We will be closing them, they are not an essential function," Villanueva said.

Supplying an excellent means of self-defense isn't an essential function? I beg to differ.

"I’m a supporter of the 2nd amendment, I’m a gun owner myself, but now you have the mixture of people that are not formerly gun owners and you have a lot more people at home and anytime you introduce a firearm in a home, from what I understand from CDC studies, it increases fourfold the chance that someone is gonna get shot."

This guy is the worst kind of leftist turd out there. He's both stupid and a hypocrite.

His job is to protect people's rights, not to restrict them.

I don't envy the man his job but the article cites his reason for shutting down gun stores is he's ultimately worried about people shooting themselves at home. So are people not staying at home when it's business as usual? :doh

First, I gotta wonder how many scumbag criminals actually buy their guns at gun stores? Secondly, there are more than enough guns floating around to keep the scumbags occupied for decades.

What are people thinking? That guns are like a Bic lighter? You use them for a couple of weeks and just throw them away? Go buy a new one?

I have guns that are 50 years old. They could close every gun store, manufacturer, ammo factory on the planet and we would STILL have enough weaponry to last a century. (Longer if the pieces are well maintained.)

I like the part about beefing up the patrol. But closing gun stores, although well intended, is futile and pointless.

And when the looting and burning begins, gun stores will be the first hit.

That's how it was in '92.
