Kobe Bryant Overrated?

Well you made your point earlier that Kobe was surrounded by a lot of talent on those Laker teams. IMO the Celtic teams Bird was on had a hell of a lot of talent too, more than those Laker teams. The Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish front court may be 1 of the best front courts in the history of the NBA. And front courts were important in the way the NBA game was played back then. Nowadays in the 3 point shot on every play era? They mean nothing, but back then front courts was all important, and the Celtics and Bird had 2 of the the best playing with him.
Yes, Bird, McHale and Parish...with Bird being the best.

Trust me. I didn’t want to believe it either.

Of course, Mr. Bryant was overrated.

But then all celebrities of any kind are usually overrated.

We humans need heroes to look up to, be they royalty (as in England) or movie stars (as in this country).

It's a team sport. Without Parrish and McHale next to him Bird looks a lot less 'great'..
Maybe, by that measure Wilt is the greatest ever because he literally had no one.

Because of the different 'eras' is why, IMO any comparison or picking a GOAT in team sports is impossible. Because of the support around him Russell won the rings during that era but Wilt was the biggest, strongest, heaviest center back then. If Wilt played today? With this type of 3 point game, and all the players being big, strong and fast Wilt might be a bench player. I'm probably exaggerating, but you see my point.

Same with Jim Brown. When he played he was probably bigger, heavier and stronger than any of the defensive players on the field he was playing against... But now? He'd be one of the lightest and smallest.

Considering the Era thing, here’s an interesting point. During his prime, was Kobe ever the best in the league?

His first few years, no. Jordan was still king. Then Shaq ruled the league, followed by Tim Duncan. Next? LeBron came on the scene. I’m not even sure Kobe was better than KG.

One final thought on eras and Larry Bird: he would not be a superstar in today’s faster, smaller league. And his 37% three-point shooting would be only slightly above average for outside shooters.

Another overrated Laker: Shaq; owned by both Hakeem and Dennis Rodman.

Shaq didn't start winning until NBA garbage time; the years after Michael, Magic, Bird, Rodman and Olajuwon retired

Rodman owning Mourning...it took six fouls to do it in game 1

No wonder that Bulls team was untouchable: Jordan, Pippen and Rodman on D. No one--not Shaq, not Alonzo, not even the Mailman, no one---can score on that.

IMO, this is the final epic Michael Jordan performance in a game which really mattered.

Good quality and fun to watch...you know with no other games to see available and all.

One of the few games where the 72-win Bulls team looked vulnerable. Not the best quality video here, but it's a great game.

So, I watch the championship clinching game below.

And, the first thing I noticed is that Jordan was human after all. Oh, and Rodman was way underrated.
