This is a dangerous red line we're crossing now. If this sets any kind of precedent, our standing as a Democracy will be in serious question.

Justice Department officials are taking a fresh look at Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she served as secretary of State, The Daily Beast has learned.

A former senior DOJ official familiar with department leadership’s thinking said officials there are acutely aware of demands from President Donald Trump that they look into Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of State—and that they lock up her top aide, Huma Abedin.

For instance, Trump tweeted on Dec. 2, “Many people in our Country are asking what the ‘Justice’ Department is going to do about the fact that totally Crooked Hillary, AFTER receiving a subpoena from the United States Congress, deleted and ‘acid washed’ 33,000 Emails? No justice!”

Brian Fallon, formerly a spokesperson for the Justice Department and Clinton’s presidential campaign, said he suspects DOJ officials are engaging in perfunctory steps “to give Trump and his allies something to talk about and point to, and something to give Fox News to devote segments to.”

“I think that even that is extremely dangerous, and that the Justice Department should not be opening itself up to the perception that it is bending to political pressures from the White House,” Fallon continued. “The Justice Department is supposed to operate independently of the White House, and even if this is just a perfunctory step that they’re taking to try to appease the president, that in and of itself is an abuse of the DOJ authority.”

To head off the predictable response, an "Obama-Justice Department" decision does not equal an order from Obama.

Obama publically declared Hillary shouldn’t be indicted during the investigation, Peter Strzok wrote a memo used by Comey to exonerate Hillary while his gal pal was creating “insurance” with Obama’s number 2 at the FBI and after Comey read that memo Strzoks civil rights violating wife got an Obama appointment to head the SEC

You of course are going to respond this is all clean and no problem because the ends justify the means for democrats

Do you think the President should be allowed to use the Justice Department to persecute his political rivals?

So, Trump, like his supporters, believes he can "But, Hillary" his way out of anything.

Given what the story actually says, explain exactly how "democracy" is threatened.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. How is this investigation going to end the former?

It's just like someone getting caught, and petulantly saying, "OH yeah? I'm friggin tellin' on you too."

Besides the action itself being flagrantly Banana Republic, there's the danger of setting precedent.

Absolutely amazing. And I'm not sure if trump supporters understand how absolutely dangerous this kind of behavior is. If Trump would have won the election, appointed some good people in to places in the judicial branch, and they saw evidence to go after Clinton, then so be it. If they could provide facts that prove she broke laws, so be it. Get her.

Instead, what has happened, is Trump won and immediately started squelching the whole "lock her up" fervor that he helped to start. He came right out and said "that plays well before the election but not after". He essentially said out loud that this was just campaign banter. And it wasn't brought up again... until Trumps ass was on the burner. Everytime a trump surrogate is indicted or pleads guilty, or every time a new lie is found by trump officials, or every time a new fact comes out, they respond by attacking the person that he beat and is no longer in charge of anything. It's as plain and clear as it gets. This is a diversion. No more, no less. If Trumps presidency were going swimmingly they would never even mention Hillary's name.

This is the equivalent of Obama waiting 8 months in to his presidency, it turning out to be a boondoggle of epic proportions, and then announcing that they are starting an investigation in to war crimes on the Bush administration and that's where the real crimes are.

This is officially over. People have no more excuses. Trump is tweeting nuclear threats across the globe without a second thought, against the advice of every expert and general in the country. He's not well. He's dangerous. This will not end well.

It is dictatoresque.

"I'm under investigation?! No, no, no, now, YOU are under investigation."

It's like they've already given up on locking up Hillary and are floating the idea that getting Huma would be a victory.

Where will it end up?

"We've made sure that Anthony Wiener can never run for office again!! Go ahead and mark this one down in the win column! See, I keep my campaign promises! MAGA!!"

Spoken to a crowd made up of dozens of supporters.

If you think this is a demonstration of irony, then please cite an example of a previous President telling the Justice Department to investigate his political rivals. We'll wait.

It would have been nice if ALL of the evidence had been collected and considered the first time around...but it wasn't. So...much as it irritates you that this issue is being revisited now that new information has been revealed, do you think Hillary and her subordinates should get away with likely violations of law?

No doubt Obama was totally clueless about what was happening in his own Justice Department in regard to such a minor issue, right?

Honestly, just red meat for the hopelessly politically destitute base.

Independents and Dems don't care. She's been cleared. Whether or not there was malfeasance under Comey, etc. is kind of irrelevant. Americans have short memories. And the base's incessant nagging about Comey and Strzok sounds more hoarse and desperate than valiant and patriotic.

Wait, wait wait...let me get this straight. You want to head of the "Obama-Justice Department" decision while at the same time complain about a "Trump-Justice Department" decision. Neato!
