Joe Biden: My VP pick will be a woman

Any of the women at the top of the field would be fine picks, IHMO.

The key is for Biden to get someone that voters think "this will be the president in 2024", because we all know Biden is likely going to be a one term show.

Harris and Klobuchar seem to be the best bets for excitement there.
Yep. Harris would supply the excitement, while Klobuchar brings MN, IA, WI, hopefully. It's a tough choice, but I think these are the two front-runners & most likely.

Agreed. With the possible long-shot possibility of Val ... from FL. I can see the strategy in bringing along FL - if she could do it - I don't know.
One thing to keep in mind is that Biden is making the same states that Obama won in 2012 competitive again, in addition to Arizona.

How is he doing that? By doing what Reagan did in reverse: winning Kasich-Romney supporters. That's what a lot of these first time voters in Democratic seem to be. Biden-Republicans from the suburbs, who are done with the Republican party, and though they didn't want to vote for Clinton, they're willing to vote for Biden.

Another thing that is even more important, is that Biden seems to be bringing back many Obama 2012 voters that sat out 2016, who are willing to walk on glass to end Trump.

If I had to make the call today, I'd give a 'very' slight edge to Hickenlooper, with Romanoff right on his heels. As I'm sure you're aware, we are about as purple of a state as there is. I'm sensing that Gardner is going to pay a price for rubber stamping some/most of Trump's policies, as well as his behavior. But it's really too early to really get any real indication as to who will get the seat. We are a very progressive state, which, of course, bodes well for the Dem nominee.

Romanoff is competitive?? Geez... I would have figured Hickenlooper had the nomination in the bag easily.

Gardner is in a tough spot either way he goes... if he pulled a Coffman and went to the center, he probably wouldn't have gotten re-nominated. But if he tows the Trump line to get the nomination, then it's a tough job to get back to the center. The way I figure it, he made the bed and now he's got to sleep in it. I've got respect for the man, because he's a good legislator... it's just unfortunate for him that he didn't have some of John McCain's backbone.

Im thinking a surprise Ivanka Trump nomination because Biden seems pretty delirious.

I'm thinking Trump will dump Pence as his scapegoat for botching the Covid 19 response and run with Nikki Haley as VP. That would be so Trumpian.

My bet is Warren. She jumped off the Bernie wagon and Biden is courting her. Probably a good pick. Stacey Abrams or Kamila Harris to the SC.
I'd like Obama on the Court. Though I suspect his huge popularity and versatility might make him useful elsewhere.

All great points. Especially concerning disaffected Republicans/Kasich-Romney (which are likely the same crowd).

I don't think "excitement" is an asset in a VP nominee.... then they start taking away some of the shine from the top of the ticket. I think Biden would be foolish to pick anyone else besides Klobuchar... and then give her standing orders not to go into any State that doesn't border on the Great Lakes.... with the possible exception of Iowa.

Agree on all counts, Cord. Hickenlooper is/was very popular as Gov. He's likable, smart, honest, and when he took his stand on the pot legalization thing, even many Repubs respected him for taking that risk.

Can you mention any specifics?

I'm not going to spend the time now, and it's something of proving a negative. I'd watch stories about her and they all fit what I'm saying.

Another possible choice for VP is Amy would be more popular in the mid-west.

Harris had a terrible turnout during the time she was in the race, too unlikeable.

Agreed 100% nor could I see any chemistry at all between Biden as potus and Harris as vp -- none.

That too. I think she'd make a great Attorney General, though.

Stacy Abrams for AG over Harris or anyone else. While Harris is a tight rule of law official Abrams takes no prisoners which scares the sheets and hoods off the mass of Trump racists throughout the land.

Biden owes Klobachar and mayor Pete. they will get jobs.

That's on the money or so I would bet.

Amy for vp and Pete as Homeland Security or something similar that keeps him in the USA and before the public prominently.

Biden btw is showing these past few days his top campaign strategists and advisers have this campaign and election covered completely. They've built on and have now surpassed at high speed the likes of David Plouffe and David Alexlrod who complemented Obama perfectly. No Drama Obama has given us No Malarkey Biden. We've got the beginnings of a serious take no prisoners campaign against Putin-Trump & Rowers. We've definitely crashed through to the end of the beginning now. Trump's Achilles Heel is that he completely falls apart just thinking about losing reelection and all of this gives him more to think and fret about than he can handle.

He's a straight shooter who always seems to succeed to whatever he turns his hand to. I've got a ton of respect for the man... I would have gone down the line for him in the Presidential race. It's too bad his candidacy never took off.

I very much agree. Klobuchar seems to be the smartest pick. As to Harris' excitement, well she'd be an excellent attack dog - which is what veeps do during the campaign. But yeah, as I sorted through my thoughts while going through the thread, Klobuchar seems to be the obvious choice. Biden probably made-up his mind on Super Tuesday, when he saw the landslide Amy brought him!

I like Abrams - I think she's a great candidate and has a great back story. I just don't think she has the resume to qualify for being one heartbeat away... especially so for a President in his late 70's. If she can win a Senate seat or a Governorship, I'll take a serious look at her.... but as it stands, for me she's in the same category as Beto O'Rourke. Impressive potential, inadequate track record.

"No Malarkey". I love it! It would be a great campaign slogan!

I don't know what it is that you're saying, though.... is it something substantive? Or is it more along the lines of gossip?

I think Abrams would make a great AG as well. Not sure which I like better, Abrams in robes at the SC or replacing that fat useless Pillsbury doughboy, Barr at Justice.

We've got Harris for AG (and she'll strike the fear of God in the old administration!), so let Stacy wear the robe. Amy runs with Biden, under the "No Malarkey" slogan.

There! It's all figured out!

I'd say that definitely didn't hurt her cause. Remember Biden has been at this game for a while now... he served in the Senate with Klobuchar. He had a pretty good seat to watch her in action when he was VP. I'd say he has a pretty good grasp on how good she is at getting bills passed... and if you pushed him on it, I'd think in his heart of hearts he knows that she's capable of even teaching him a thing or two on that front. But it'd take an awful lot of pushing for him to admit it.

Abrams already has a sister who's a US District Judge down in Georgia.... if she gets on the SC, can you imagine what Thanksgiving Dinners would be like in that family?

Yeah, when the sis is having problem making a decision, she'd have to appeal to Stacy! :2razz:

Anyway, thanks for the good convo. Have a good one!

I'm curious, what is it exactly that would lead you to believe she would make a good SC Justice? Is it just the fact that she is an African American woman with a law degree? if so that is a slap in the face to any sitting judge, in particular those that are actually qualified and also happen to be a woman of color. This would be the equivalent of a Republican nominating Ben Shapiro to the Supreme Court.

I said Stacy Abrams for AG.

Sen. Klobuchar for VP.

I never said anything about Abrams for VP so I'll say something now which is that Abrams would have a challenge to persuade Americans she's a fit for VP at this point of her relatively limited career in electoral politics and government. While Abrams is pushing 50 and was an elected state rep in the GA House and she came very close in the race for governor, close only counts in hand grenades and horse shoes.

Moreover for Abrams to get into the SCt she'd need the Democrats in the Senate majority which remains a pending matter. Abrams could likely be confirmed as AG by a Republican Senate if that might be how it goes in November yet that is pending of course and tenuous for Moscow Mitch & His Deadend Boyz. And make no mistake Susan Collins and Republican women senators are where the Boyz are.
