Joe Biden asks Amy Klobuchar to undergo VP vetting process: report

Amy Klobuchar is going to go under intense vetting and interviews from the Biden campaign. They are going to see if there are any skeletons in her closet and potential red flags. Other than the fact she has thrown office equipment, like binders, at her staff and ended up eating her meal with a comb one time, I don't think they are going to find much.

When I look at the betting odds, her stock went dramatically up and now pretty even with the favorite Kamala Harris.

What do you guys think of Amy Klobuchar? Is she the right fit for Biden?

Personally I think she's a pretty good fit for him. She's experienced -- been a U.S Senator since 2007 -- and pretty simpatico with Biden's political philosophy. There are no question marks about her age, cognitive abilities, and qualifications. The only issue I see is that, the Bernie Bros are not going to be happy. They want somebody who is progressive or socialist, not a liberal.

WOOT!! Go AMY!

Klobuchar has been at the top of my potential VP list for months.

Great choice, does put her Senate seat at risk... then again Republicans acting like President CheetoVonTweeto ass kissing idiots have put all of theirs at risk as well.

She was my #2 pick for presidential candidate after Bloomberg. I think she will make a fine VP. Too back she's not from a swing state.

Oh boy, it's Tim Kaine all over again.

What a train wreck.

If he is insistent on going with his next victim a woman, she is a far better choice than Kamala Harris or Ms. Abrams, both of whom have marked histories of only being progressive when it advances their career or there is something in it for them.

Would you prefer Val Demings then? She also made the shortlist as well. I am just curious what would be considered a non-Tim Kaine pick.

I don't think Hilary Clinton lost because of Kaine. I think it had to do with a certain AOL slogan.

Stacey Abrams is a no-go. She holds no political office at the moment and never been a Governor, U.S Senator, member of the U.S House of Representatives, or held a cabinet lead for the federal government.

While it hasn't been officially confirmed, I think Harris is on the shortlist.

Kaine definitely harmed her by alienating her left flank, hands down, no question. I know because I was at ground zero among said left when it was announced. To say it was received poorly is kind of an understatement, and it was widely regarded as deliberate and vindictive nose thumbing.

she is so smart.

i listened to her speech when she entered the race many months ago. it was pretty good.

I like Klobuchar and she was my first pick for VP but I've since preferred Harris. There are such things as law and order Democrats. Progressives have attacked both on their records, but I applaud them. That isn't my only criterion, but I think Biden and Harris compliment each other here. Harris is smart and quick on her feet. Tough. And the diversity would be astounding. If Trump thought black and white men were bad, he's about to be ruled by black, white, Indian man and woman. I can't wait for Trump to call Kamala "that woman." If she's the nominee, she won't take crap from Trump.

I love Amy. After Biden, she was my choice for president. I'm sure she'll be offered a role if not the nominee.

Bernie Bros and socialists need to grow up. Vote Trump out of office, then make your power play. First things first.

I can see that point for 2016. It was a razor thin race between Clinton and Sanders. But when you look at 2020, Biden has been controlling the board since March 3rd. It has been about beating Trump, not progressive vs. liberal politics.

I think many progressives in 2016 stayed because they felt the DNC stole the election from Sanders and didn't want to vote for the "cheater". I don't think any VP could logically fill-in that gap, besides Sanders.

For some people. anybody he choose would be a 'tim kaine' pick.

But then again, they wouldn't vote for a democrat, no matter who it was anyway.

Well, it wasn't really domineered until post ST (remember, Biden only won there by 86ish delegates; easily less than what Klob and Pete were expected to win), and tbh, the abrupt and desperate consolidation of the moderates just prior to ST when Sanders was posed to win it by all accounts and polling then definitely registers as a kind of theft.

Abrams is the MSNBC choice because she is black and a woman from the south. They are, of course, disregarding that she was fine with confederate memorials and voted to eliminate access to free college in Georgia for B students rather than fight to fund those existing grants. If he goes with Harris, he is toast. Until she ran for the Senate, she was the democratic version of Ken Cuccinelli. Her tough on crime history combined with Joe's very very get tough on drugs and send a generation of black men to prison voting record will alienate even the moderate progressives. Like I said, as far as his potential victims, Amy K. is probably his best choice.

Agreed. She seems to be enthusiastic and productive with her voter registration campaign, but far too inexperienced. That was Buttigieg's problem.

Biden - 26 presidential contests won (none of them were territories or "Democrats Abroad")
Sanders - 9 contests (7 of them were actual states)
Buttigieg - 1 contest (Iowa)
Bloomberg - 1 contest (American Samoa)

Grumble all you want. Biden is unlikely to lose another contest. Sanders dropped out in early April. Last time, he made it to the convention.

Keep in mind that the report does not say that Klobuchar is the one, just that the Biden team is going to go through the traditional protocol for somebody on the finalist list. We can talk about Val Demings too.

Harris is far from beloved, but she definitely rates higher than Amy K as someone from within the progressive camp; Klob is particularly reviled as utterly milquetoast and pro-establishment; effectively as close to being a Hillary surrogate as can be imagined.
