Israel obeys rump's orders to bar entry of two congresswomen!

If any nation blocked Trump from visiting, that country would be praised or, at the very least, there would be calls to examine and understand just why that is.

But I thought WE were Israel's puppet?

To be fair, Israel has had this anti-bds law on the books long before they were elected. Israeli media is saying that Netanyahu was initially going to allow them in, but lawyers questioned even he even had the authority to do so, as it's pretty clear and no exemptions warranted.

So, just think of Netanyahu following his own country's laws.

Not long - I think it was passed in 2017.

So now, 'democratic' countries are supposed to get to demand any visitors have certain political views? Hell, you can visit North Korea and strongly oppose them, and even boycott them otherwise, and still get in. You can even say some things critical of the country to the guides, as I understand. But not 'free' Israel. Imagine you want to go to England, and have to sign swearing you support Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Brexit to get in.

But hell, that's just travel.

We've been having a majority in Congress playing with criminalizing and otherwise punishing Americans who exercise their freedom to boycott. The Senate would have already passed this stripping of the American people's rights if 43 Democrats hadn't stood up to AIPAC and blocked it.

But I thought WE were Israel's puppet?

It mostly goes that way. This was ultimately about serving Israel's right-wing government also - it just so happens that the opposition by Israel to their boycott position and trump's political opposition to them overlap.

Uh huh....:coffeepap

That's pretty true. But trump wouldn't be barred for exercising his right as a citizen to boycott.

When you say can't, do you mean shouldn't?

They can, I suspect, as long as nothing stops them, while we continue to fully support the wrongs and oppose the law and what's right. Hence the boycott movement to try to create some pressure to do the right thing - while our politicians, serving Israel, try to criminalize the boycotts, attacking Americans' rights.

I mean can't. The neo-cons are gone. Occupying that land is illegal. It's only an issue because of a bunch of religious extremists who believe God gave the land to Israel. They just moved in and took the land. Now Israel can't give the land back because it's full of their citizens.

The U.N. would vote to sanction them but the U.S. blocks the vote. If Israel doesn't change, it will eventually lose U.S. support. Jewish voters are only 1.4% of the U.S. population.

I still don't see the 'can't' part, or any imminent US abandoning Israel over this.

And Jewish Americans aren't really the issue - they're often on the right side against the right-wing Israel government. It's the American right who treats Palestinians like illegal immigrants - dehumanizing, supporting denial of basic rights, and so on - that's more the problem - but even many Democrats support the wrongs.

House Democrat Ilhan Omar, one of the first two Muslim women to serve in the US Congress, described Israel's decision to bar her and another congresswoman from visiting the country as "chilling" (AFP Photo/Kerem Yucel)
Washington (AFP) - House Democrat Ilhan Omar called Israel's decision Thursday to ban her from visiting the country "chilling," saying it was an "insult to democratic values" to deny entry to sitting members of the US Congress.

"It is an affront that Israeli Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu, under pressure from President (Donald) Trump, would deny entry to representatives of the US government," Omar, who is Muslim, said in a sharply worded statement.

"The irony of the 'only democracy' in the Middle East making such a decision is that it is both an insult to democratic values and a chilling response to a visit by government officials from an allied nation."

The Somali refugee, elected to Congress from Minnesota last year, was denied entry to Israel along with fellow first-term Democrat Rashida Tlaib.

Israeli officials said the pair -- the first Muslim women to serve in Congress -- were barred because they support a boycott of the country over its treatment of the Palestinians.

DENIED ENTRY FOR CRITICIZING ISRAELS HANDLING OF PALESTINIANS. I personally thing Israel is kinda mistreating them because they dont take control of the area but yet dont allow it to exist as a real place. But its their way and they stated exactly why they barred them.

It’s a mistake to believe that it’s only Jews that support Israel.

Just a moment, Craig234, before we begin our particular interlude, I must ask: do you believe Israel has a right to exist?

Because I remember you saying a while back one of the things that you made fun of conservatives for is believing Israel has a right to exist. I would like to know from what angle you are approaching this. Morality or personal malice disguised as morality.

Does Israel have the right to exist, yes. Do they have the right to steal land from their neighbors, no. Every day the "country" of Israel grows larger as they take mor eand more land in the West Bank from their neighbors.

Don’t all nations have a right to exist? Self-determination was once considered a virtue.

Palestine has every right to exist just as Israel has every right to exist.

It is an interesting point that you make, Unitedwestand13. Would you argue that Kurdistan has a right to exist if Kurds were seize land from Turkey, Iran and Syria in order to make it, and over those country's objections? Do the Basque have a right to their own country over Spanish objections?

Because I am far more sympathetic to the Kurds and the Basque regarding their aspirations of statehood, but I do not see how national self-determination allows for these peoples to achieve statehood.

For the safety of AOC and Hijab Omar, they shouldn't be allowed in Israel. They might incite a riot or an attack. If college campuses can ban conservatives, you bet a country can ban two hate mongers who might incite a potential terrorist attack.

The hate monger is trump and his lies. And old netty is just as corrupt as trump. Two peas in a pod.

It's also Israel's land that the Palestinians are squatting on. There's the thing, Israel has stated the fact they won't allow those into Israel that will stir up hatred and demand that Israel go away and die. If they let these two idiot congresswomen (I'm being kind) go into Israel, then they would take the heat from their own people against their leaders. They would be viewed as hypocrites. The only solution at this point is to bar them from Israel and their constituents vote the two Muslim terrorist out of office in 2020.

The REAL issue here is that Israel is not allowing people to visit Palestine. The 2 congresswomen were trying to visit PALESTINE and Israel said no, proving once again that Palestine is a fake state and Israel makes all decisions. So at this point Israel is allowing Hezbollah extremists to fester on purpose for whatever reason. Because they (Israel) are the ones in control of the territory.

Steal land? No, they were attacked and in wars, countries get to take over countries or land that they conquered. It's been happening for millenniums. They didn't take a thing. They won them in wars they didn't start. What is wrong with people who think Israel is somehow growing larger like the U.S. grew larger by starting wars against Indians and taking the land? Which, by the way, is allowed in this world. Russia did it after WW2. But, they were unable to set up an economic and political system that allowed for them to be successful in this. They stuck to socialism/communism only. Now, China has implemented a form of capitalism hoping they won't make the same mistake that Russia did.

The hate monger is trump and his lies. And old netty is just as corrupt as trump. Two peas in a pod.

It's standard practice for the evil to reverse attacks. China imprisons a million people accusing them of 'terrorism'. trump and Netenyahu are happy to wrong people and say the critics are 'hateful'. Putin justifies a lot of his oppression in the name of 'anti-terrorism'. Terrorism is the new communism, a word to justify wrongdoing in the name of opposing wrong. trump lies constantly, and calls the media who point it out 'fake news'.

Sovereign nation bars two people; liberals lose it.

The Kurds and Basques have their own unique circumstances but their desire for a nation is the same as the Palestinians.

My argument about Palestinian statehood is based on achieving a two-State solution.

I'm not sure about that specific law. I know several laws have been talked about since BDS's popularity so, who knows. But I highly doubt they had Ilhan Omar in mind. People have routinely been turned away at the airport for decades so, it's nothing new.

Some people have political views that support terrorism, such as Michael Savage, an American. The situation doesn't change just because they take an elected position. This isn't unprecedented, and in fact, the same thing happened to Narenda Modi, and he's the PM of the largest democracy.
But hell, that's just travel.

indeed, I don't understand why someone who boycotts a country, is so obsessed with visiting them. think of this as their way of saying "we support you boycotting us, and staying the hell away".

Actually, it's Hamas in the west bank. But, I do wish they would remove all of them. For decades this has been going on. By the way, at this point, there is no "Palestine." There never has been a country or land Palestine. It was made up by the British long ago. The fact is, those two Jew haters should not be allowed in Israel to stir up more hatred. They aren't going there for a peaceful purpose.

What a load of crap. That land belonged to the people living in Palestine for hundreds of years. Most Jews living in Israel today ancestors came form other countries and areas including Europe and Russia. In fact some of the families forced off the land have lived on the land for more than a thousand years. So you if you believe all of thee propaganda put out by Israel than maybe you should read some history.
