Is This The End? Trump Suborned Perjury With Michael Cohen's Testimony to Congress

I would say that Donald J Trump is toast. His daughter Ivanka and son Don Jr. are in definite legal peril. Possibly also Jared Kushner.

Giuliani now tacitly admits that the Trump campaign colluded with the Putin regime. (but not Donald, although how Giuliani separates Trump from his own campaign is a mystery)

True. But the question is, do they care? Does the GOP really care as long as it means placing their party over country? Does their base really care?

That is a very sad question to have to ask.

It is even sadder that the answer is questionable....

Standing behind a president who has been proven as having suborned perjury?
Hmmm...if that is the hill that Republicans choose to die on, let em die, I say...and I say it with no joy, because as much as I am a liberal Democrat, I do actually believe it is necessary to have what Arlo Guthrie once termed "a loyal opposition".
But that opposition is nothing if it sells its honor, decency and birthright for a handful of lentils. (Genesis 25:34)

By the way, The Washington Post has now signed on with this story.

Indeed. If this is the part where they whip out their string instruments and tie themselves to the mast of the SS Trumptanic, so be it. They deserve their fate.

And even though the Post has a story, it does not look like they have independently corroborated anything. Although I did just hear Jason Leopold claim he had seen some of the corroborating documents, which bolsters the accuracy of the story.

An absolutely excellent post CS, as is not unusual from you.

I call the effect we are seeing with Trump as, "the tyranny of the minority over the majority". But you additionally bring-in a critical and paramount facet: The irreal nature of the Trump Presidency. This Presidency is essentially a Reality Show, which might not be so unexpected given the host.

But there are some recent good signs. Currently the majority of Americans see through trump's "we needing a wall charade" (according to recent polls). And the 2018 election showed a rebuff of Trump & his policies.

I swear to God (is that the wrong thing to swear to right this moment?) that religious fundamentalism is the thing that applies to this political situation because what we're witnessing looks and sounds like religious fundamentalism only with a political object of worship instead.

Much of religion is based on fairy tales and mythology, and so is most of reality TV, thus it's not surprising that a reality TV host suddenly becomes a political messiah who can lie, cheat and steal, and possibly even KILL with impunity, and capture the hearts, minds and souls of religious fundamentalists in the process.

Agreed. But I place the majority of blame on the GOP. Congress is the Constitutionally designated body to reign-in wayward acting Presidents.

However by extension, it is probably fair to ultimate lay the responsibility on Trump supporters themselves. The GOP representatives (both House & Senate) are largely representing the will of their voters. So unfortunately, we now have a minority of the electorate dictating policy to the majority. A "tyranny of the minority over the majority", so to speak. And the result - of course - is massive political discord!

Another good post. I'd only add there is plenty of blame to go around here. Hannity, Limbaugh, State Run Tele....er....Fox News, etc. They have all profited wildly off of their decision to propagandize a segment of our populace. They learned early on that they could make money off of generating fear in people, and they have since ratcheted that fear up more and more, to keep the "fix" for people in place. And then end-result is we have a Talk Radio conspiracy theorist personality as President.

Interesting point.

I scan a wide variety of sites, including hardcore Trump sites. I do indeed see claims of "Trump doing God's work/will", quite often. I also see talk of, "God sent Trump down to save us".

I guess it's a theo-political movement for some, and they believe they are moving towards political Rapture.

Maybe. We shall see. If anything is certain, the vast majority of the Republicans in the Senate believe in party first, personal political power second, country a distant third. Maybe interchange the first two even.

"...the vast majority of the Republicans in the Senate RIGHT NOW".

I might be tempted to point to times where we've seen Democrats who did the same, and there may be a few right now still willing. We can hash all that out in a thread devoted solely to leaders who sell out their state, country and constituency for the luxuries of raw power.

At this moment I am mindful of a group who is doing the bidding of a rogue potentate.

Yip, I agree Clinton lied at times it was just stupid to.

Yes I put a joint to my lips but I didn't inhale...

Proper answer, of course I tried pot I was young, in college, and it was offered to me, next question.

Did you have sex with that woman?

Proper answer, none of your ****ing business, that is between myself, my wife and that woman.

Next question.

A little honesty could have saved us all a lot of trouble...

A tale as old as time...

Honesty many times could save us all a lot of trouble. Well said!

A terrible commentary on the current state of reality unfortunately.

I see the bolded as an extremely salient point, not just for financial gain but for political gain. And as we've seen often in history, it can be very effective.

Excellent clarification and correction. Indeed, at this current moment, which is what should be concerning all of us right now.

Religious fundamentalism is a form of mental illness. And yet there does not seem to be a term which adequately describes the political rather than religious form of fundamentalism, and yet both seem identical save for worship of an elected tyrant instead of a mythical prophet.

And both bear a striking resemblance to hardcore drug addiction.

And both, often in combination have been the cause of a majority of wars in history.

Well that is when you take into consideration the leaders that were using those reasons to enrage the masses in order to gain more wealth, property and power.

Sound familiar???

Reporting done by renowned investigative journalist Jason Leopold informs us that Donald Trump personally instructed Cohen to lie to Congress. And this is not just a he said-he said situation. There is corroborating evidence that the SCO possesses that back up and confirm this to be the case. Trump sought to have Cohen suborn perjury in order to obscure his involvement with Russia.

According to Bill Barr, who will likely be the next AG, any effort by a President to suborn perjury is absolutely Obstruction of Justice, as stated in his confirmation hearing.

This is bad. Really, really bad for Trump and his children. It appears as if not only Trump Sr. has committed a High Crime and broken the oath of office, but his adult children are also in serious legal jeopardy as well.

So to all of you Trump supporters, do you care that Trump obstructed justice and ordered his personal attorney to lie to Congress? Is it starting to sink in yet just how much trouble Trump is in? Or how corrupt this man truly is to his core?

And on the heels of this report, the Democratic-led House via the Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee are both launching investigations into this aspect of these revelations. With Mr. Cohen set to publicly testify February 7th, the stakes are as high as ever now for the Criminal-in-Chief.

Now all you have to do prove your case....right now it is still a case of unnamed sourced in the investigation....right?

Let’s see what Mueller comes up with....

Ah. "Allegedly".

So...you don't really know.

Never mind.

Mueller does not leak, so no. We don't know what he knows.

I know the reporting and I know the veracity of the claims. I couple that with my knowledge of the investigative journalists and their reputations, and I make an educated observation. Do you do it differently?

Maybe. We shall see. If anything is certain, the vast majority of the Republicans in the Senate believe in party first, personal political power second, country a distant third. Maybe interchange the first two even.

The same is true for the Dems.

Yes, very effective, and historically speaking, with potentially horrific results.

That guy afaik, is TRump's #1 paid russian bot (or has a serious psychotic obsession), and will defend ANYTHING Trump does, against ANYONE, and damn ALL evidence. He seems to view Trump as perfection personified. He views ALL things TRUMP as MAGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reporter is also citing anonymous sources, as usual, and has acknowledged that he hasn't seen the actual document that would substantiate this. Which leaves open the broad possibility that this is another manufactured fake news story as all of these kinds of things have been so far.

If true it is a serious problem for the President.

If not true it exposes more of the dishonesty, incompetence, and corruption of the mainstream media.

The same is true for the Dems.

Perhaps. But we have little to compare with, as the Democratic Party has never had someone like Donald Trump as the leader of the party.

Ah. "Allegedly".

So...you don't really know.

If Trump visited your house, and crapped in the toilet, but forgot to flush, you'd save the "trophy" wouldn't you?

I'm just saying that, from a personal point of view, having been around a ton of religious fundies and speaking as a recovering drug addict, that I see the exact same mechanism at work in all three.

Trumpism looks and sounds like religious fundamentalism and religious fundamentalists act like drug addicts, which is also precisely why so many addicts TURN TO a fundamentalist version of a religion. They trade one addiction for another.

The demorats are no different with the possible exception of having a POTUS come out of nowhere (never held elective office before) and utter, often disconnected and contradictory, sentence fragments as if they, somehow, clearly defined policy positions.
