Are those statistics grounded in race or simply in criminal activity? We've got a few bars around town that get lots of police attention. The majority of the clientele is Mexican. Those bars get all that attention because they are a hotbed for drunken brawls, not just because they are frequented by Mexicans.
Is There Such a Thing as "White Privilege"?
As Wiki defines it: "White privilege (or white skin privilege) is a term for societal privileges that benefit white people beyond what is commonly experienced by non-white people in the same social, political, or economic circumstances" White privilege - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I think this answers your question: Everyone does drugs, but only minorities are punished for it - Vox
How many of the gangs peddling drugs are predominately made up of minority races as compared to whites? In Tucson the majority of drug arrests involve Mexicans. While it's true that marijuana use in town is fairly consistent across the board the majority of dealers (those who are being arrested) are Mexican. In fact, if you want to get into dealing drugs in this town you'd have to, at some point, get involved with Mexicans. They have the market pretty much cornered outside of the guy who is doing his own little "boutique" thing in his garage.
Cops generally try to chase small drug busts up the line so if some white kid gets popped for having a quarter pound on him he's probably going to flip on the guy he got it from and 9 times out of 10 it's going to lead to a Mexican. The kid with the QP might get 30 days but the Mexican with 20# is going to get 30 months. That's where your disparity comes in. I hate to break this to you but it's Blacks and Mexicans who are running the drug trade in this country so they are the ones who are going to be on the hook for the longer sentences.
Furthermore, when the cops grab a mid level dealer they not only grab his product but also anything they can find with his contacts. So what you've got is some idiot white kid on campus who gets popped with a QP who flips on the Mexican guy with 20# and then the cops check his contacts and find 5 other Mexicans with 100# each and so on so that one white kid was just the core of the snowball.
There are any number of commonalities of customers that could be used to determine honesty. The fact that color of skin is seemingly an appropriate one to find as a commonality means there is still discrepancy in our system.
I know that the popular meme is that blacks are all poor because they don't marry to have children, but that's nonsense. The idea that two people who are both very poor are somehow going to be less poor through because of a marriage ceremony is absurd. No amount of marriages (which completely ignores whether or not any of the people involved actually want to be married to one another) is going to alter this 1 to 5 statistic. Please put this tired meme in the trash where it belongs.
Because you're making **** up.Why is it that when a white person does something worth praising like graduating college or having a good job or w/e, it's played down as being because he has privilege. I think it's dishonest and takes away from the merit. When an asian graduated college or has a good job and is living well off it isn't diminished even though both groups have high graduation rates. Why is that?
Not everyone gets what they deserve. And not everyone faces the same adversity.Everyone gets what he deserves. if you work hard and put your mind to work you will succeed. Everyone faces the same adversity everyday.
That's a lie, Rush Limbaugh told me so. So did that rich kid who killed 4 people in Texas while he was drunk. You do drugs, you go to jail.
The picture it paints is quite the opposite.Whenever I see all those statistics about the number of blacks vs whites who go to prison for drug posession why is it that nobody talks about # of possesions. Prior convictions or amount carried.
It's all sanitized to paint a pretty picture.
I've seen no evidence that you're a critical thinker.I'm a critical thinker and I don't like it when things show up as being clear cut. It smells of dishonesty. It smells like someone is trying too hard to make a point that, if context were provided, it would vanish.
I thought you said everyone has the same adversity? In the USA, the only people who have some hint of privilege are the politically-well-connected. They have privileges. As in things that they shouldn't have but have for no merit.
No it means the store owner has had problems with more people of a certain race and when more people of that race come into the store, they are looked at more closely.
"A new study by M. Marit Rehavi of the University of British Columbia and Sonja B. Starr of the University of Michigan Law School shows that Black Americans receive almost 60% long prison sentences than white Americans who committed the same crime.
The study covered 58,000 federal criminal cases and found that there was a significant difference between the sentences given to Black people to those given to white people."

"The probability that the district attorney will advance a case to a penalty trial is more than three times as high when the defendant is African-American than for white defendants (this includes Mr. Buck’s case). "
Study: Blacks Twice as Likely as Whites to Get Death Penalty in This Texas County | Mother Jones
Starr and Rehavi, 2012 Racial Disparity...(quote from page 26)CONCLUSION
This study provides robust evidence that black male federal defendants receive longer
sentences than whites arrested for the same offenses and with the same prior records. On average
black males receive sentences that are approximately 10% longer than comparable white
males with those at the top of the sentencing distribution facing even larger disparities. Much of
that disparity appears to be driven by decisions at the initial charging stage, especially by prosecutors’
filing of “mandatory minimum” charges, which, ceteris paribus, they do twice as often
against black defendants. Our estimates of disparities in prosecutorial decisions are likely conservative,
because they do not encompass gaps introduced by prearrest prosecutorial involvement
in the case, nor do they account for possible disparities in law enforcement.
I'm just going to address your first link for now. The headline is ridiculously misleading and I'm going to assume that you never bothered to track down the study cited.
From that study -
Starr and Rehavi, 2012 Racial Disparity...(quote from page 26)
That 10% figure is a hell of a lot different than the 60% cited in the linked article and the study also indicates that the impact of mandatory minimum sentencing is the driving factor in the disparity.
" the average sentence during 2008 and 2009 was 55
months for whites and 90 months for blacks"
55/90=61.11111111%
The texters are a different breed altogether. They're in the "asshole race" (you didn't even know it exists, but it does).
I don't care if I get called a name, but Asian women are - generally speaking - the worst drivers in the history of the world.

No, he's talking about the Michael Brown video showing the thug robbing a little ole Asian guy's store.

Most of those (almost all) "studies" cited are written by people like the ones who taught TheDemSocialist in school. Back then it was known as "common core politics" now it's known as "common core studies". They're teaching 'em how to become even dumber, if that's possible. And the dumbing down of America continues. I don't even bother to read the bull**** that he links. Here's an example of how common core math goes about teaching how to subtract on number from another. So imagine what they're teaching them in social studies/history/race relations etc.
