I'm not used to it and spent a week there recently and it was nothing like the horror stories. Don't try to tell others what they saw or experienced. If you want to share YOUR horror stories, tell us where you stayed, where you went, where you observed these horrible conditions. I walked miles, biked miles, drove to dinner way outside the traditional 'tourist' areas and didn't see it, experience it. Dealing with the homeless in SF was less of an issue than going downtown in Knoxville for dinner then walk a few blocks to a show at the Tennessee Theater.
Homeless people exist everywhere. They concentrate in cities for good reasons. The local shelter is just a mile from our central district with $million condos and our best restaurants downtown, and many live near the area where several interstates and major local roads cross in overpasses. If you come to Knoxville, you won't leave calling it a ****hole, but you will encounter homeless, drug addicts, because that's part of life in America.
I was downtown, stayed at the Pan Pacific hotel for several says. We had a showing of automation equipment at the nearby convention center. When it rained lightly...
The smell...
