Is ESPN in Big Trouble?

Stupid ESPN. They had an awesome hook here. Nothing would have driven up their morning drive ratings more than making a big deal out of this.

“It’s really a poisonous atmosphere right now,” said one longtime ESPNer who has worked on the show. “Most of us don’t see the show lasting through its contractual end [which is believed to be the end of December]. But I give both these guys immense credit because when the light comes on, you would not know what’s going on. They are pros on air.”

Why did they not exploit this rift? Instead ESPN down-played it and, as a result, they let Clay Travis steal their audience. Stupid.

I don't know if this is just Republican intolerance or if ESPN really just went all-in Lefty and drove them away. As an independent, I can say that ESPN smells Lefty and it has done a few things which sort of pissed me off--like firing Curt Schilling for flaming while actually pushing the flames spewed by Stephan A Smith. Anyway, here are some hard numbers.

Bullet points:
All told, the ESPN audience across the network’s channels was already liberal in 2015 – but it became more liberal in 2016 as Republicans stopped watching:

The ESPN audience became 5% less Republican in 2016 than 2015 across all 43 markets analyzed.
ESPN2’s audience became 10% less Republican during the same time period.

The biggest partisan shift happened on ESPN News, whose audience became 36% less Republican and more Democratic.
ESPNU’s audience became 12% more Democratic in 2016 compared to 2015.
ESPN Deportes – whose audience already skewed very liberal – became 27% more Democratic.

There are maybe two brain cells between the two. They must take turns using them.
