Iowa's longest serving Republican leaves party

Yes, good for him, all rinos should have the honesty to switch to the party of their true beliefs but, he seems to go with the wind as he was once a Democrat who switched to Republican, now back again. Regardless, all parties deserve members who work to support and improve their party, not undermine it from within by supporting the opposition.

Improve their party?

Surely you meant to say improve their country...

No it doesnt. That is so laughable i can see the sour grapes laced in your post. The dude is a lifelong republican since the 70s and he mentioned fiscal reasons for leaving.
Doesn't address the point.

He's part of a bigger movement of people rejecting bad behavior and poor leadership.

Someday, your eyes will open too. :2razz:

Democrats always want Republicans to run nice and polite Democrat-light candidates for president - because they always lose.

He was just fine with Obama creating more national debt than all other presidents combined and Democrats want to add tens of trillions more debt in free everything. So it has nothing to do with fiscal reasons. It has to do with the demographics of his district changing. That is always the only real reason anyone switches political parties.

Speaking in favor of morality and decency is crossing the line?

Maybe I misjudged how far to the right the cultists have gone. Oh well, one day maybe reality will be realized by the radical right, but it won't be any time soon. :damn

There is no under estimating the number of lies the Democratic Party will tell or the TDS dementia of many Democrats to believe what they even know to be lies. Truth not only is irrelevant to the Democratic Party. To the Democratic Party truth is the #1 enemy.

OK, so what exactly did it mean that you turned from the left to the right because you grew up, got a job and had kids? Come on, we are all dying to know how those events turned you into a conservative. It sure did not do the same for countless millions of other boomers so let us know what really turned the tide for you because by your own admission, those events were not unique drivers by themselves.

You need to see a doctor because if you are dying now it's not going to get any better. I am not going to write you my life story, what I said is enough.

Good to see a Republican place morality and decency above blind party loyalty.

When John McCain and George H.W. Bush died, we lost two of the few such Republicans. With this defection there will be one fewer such Republican still.

Glad he made the change. The Democratic party is our big-tent party, with room for everyone from Joe Manchin to Ocasio-Cortez!

Pretty soon the only thing the republicans will be able to rely on is their pet news network and narrow interest patronage networks that already exist.

The point is vacuous and i gave reasons why. That addresses the point.
You were wrong the first and failed to address the second time. :applaud

Ok, so you have other reasons that you won't share, good enough. But lets agree that growing up, getting a job and having kids was not the reason.

No, not the reason per say, but maturing, having responsibilities and basically getting a "real life" education as to which party was more in with our best interest was.

And yet decades later you still support them in spite of decades of evidence to the contrary and you may even be old enough to be a socialist or are you refusing the liberal communist plots of SS and Medicare? Sorry buddy, anyone who turned to the right from the left did so for reasons most of them would never admit to the public or themselves.

Are you a long lost brother of mine? You seem to know more about me than any family member. Projection is a big theme with some liberals eh!

Given that the reason he gave was his opposition to "reckless spending", it sounds like he's more of a Republican than you....

Is it time to admit that all Trump supporters are "Rinos"?

Problem is that, since the 1980s, the Republicans have been the Party of budget deficits.

LOL, yes, the guy goes with the wind, and changes parties almost as often as Trump.....

"after spending nearly a half-century as a registered Republican and 26 years in the legislature."

I'd love to know if his district is turning into a Democrat district.
