Politico article written by Republican House Representative Francis Rooney.
I'm a conservative Republican. Climate change is real.

I’m a conservative Republican and I believe climate change is real. It’s time for my fellow Republicans in Congress to stop treating this environmental threat as something abstract and political and recognize that it’s already affecting their constituents in their daily lives....

I’m from a coastal district that is directly affected by these issues every day. In fact, my home state of Florida is ground zero for the adverse effects of climate change. As these extreme weather events increase in frequency and intensity, Congress — especially my Republican colleagues — needs to recognize the costs, disruptions and global security risks that climate change will bring to both our domestic and foreign policy, and the federal budget.

Rooney is an outlier in the Republican party, but hopefully not for too much longer.

I am not going to call him an idiot,....yet. He is misinformed, badly.

Another case of projection. Deniers know they don't know ****ing **** about what actually goes on in climate science and couldn't understand more than maybe 1/10th of a peer-reviewed paper anywhere in that diverse field. As usual, the clueless automatically reach for calling the other side clueless. And as back up, they can always demand someone "prove" AGW is real, then obstinately announce every last bit of proof isn't sufficient to their exacting and Godly standards.

The simple fact of the matter is that deniers project awareness of their own ignorance as a psychological maladaptive (defensive) response.

Ok, that's not counting the ones who realize their profound ignorance and do not actually embrace the laughable CT that it's a "hoax" (to...what? Scientists conspiring to get taxes raised on themselves? DERP), but instead are motivated purely by selfishness: they know the real **** won't hit the fan until they're dead, so their children and grandchildren can go pound sand. They want theirs.

Yep, that damn climate changes alright....regularly.

Kudos to Representative Rooney and welcome to the 21st century.

Republican Politicians like Rooney, as well as any Democrats, have a strong tendency to change their presentation on the many issues based on real life happenings in their district and state.

I’ll still take our 2-party system over any system that has anywhere from 3 to 12 viable parties. Realistically, it will most likely take the disappearance of my Boomer generation, along with the Silent generation.

I applaud Francis Rooney for not taking the easy route and just deny because it is easy for his position as a Republican. It shows maturity and intelligence.

Some conservatives can be shown all the evidence in the world and they'll dismiss every bit of it because they don't trust the scientists. It is no different than the anti-vaxxers and creationists.

My sister is a director at a large child advocacy group that has only donated to the Democratic Party, most recently giving nearly $90,000. They never Skype or use anything like GoToMeeting. They always insist on making people drive and fly to countless meetings. When I did reality TV, we Skyped all the time and for a "travel" TV show, traveled far less than social workers.

I wonder what effect we would have if we just did lots more working from home or if we cut back the work week? How much fossil fuel wouldn't be burned on a 4 day work week?

"I'm a politician an I'll say pretty much anything that my donors and my constituents, but mostly my donors, want me to say!"

Who the hell still doesn't believe in climate change? Granted I can't say how much we humans are contributing....

How brave of him to side with the vast majority of the scientific community.

Yes climate change is real. Anyone who experiences 4 seasons knows so. In the Spring it brings forth new life the beginning of the growing season. The Summer continues the growing season while some harvesting begins. In the Fall final harvest begins. Winter the temperatures get cold and everything is sleeping to be awaken next Spring.

The four seasons tell the story of life. And just like life each stage comes with changes.

Who are the donors that inspired this piece?

You really think the politicians who deny AGW aren't funded by the fossil fuel industry?

Who the hell still doesn't believe in climate change?

"The Earth is cooling!"

"Antarctica is gaining ice!"

"The Earth is warming, but it is natural warming!"

"The warming is caused by the sun!"

"The warming is caused by volcanoes!"

The deniers need to get the arguments straight before they can ever expect to be taken seriously.

 of course its real and the vast majority of republicans i know in real life understand that fact

to deny the fact of global warming is liken to anti-vaxers, birthers, flat earthers and people that think bush planned 911. the people in those groups are completely retarded morons and or simply just lying trolls. Nobody educated honest and objective takes them seriously we just mock them for the stupidity they spew.

Now . . as far as what do we do to fix it, help it, can we fix it, how much to people impact it vs natural causes etc etc THOSE things are up for debate but not its existence.

Who the hell still doesn't believe in climate change? Granted I can't say how much we humans are contributing....

the same types of people that are flat earthers, anti vaxxers, birthers and 911 conspiracy nuts that think bush planned it . . . . .

Given that it is completely obvious that the Earth's climate changes naturally (we all know about ice ages) I think you can safely assume that "climate change" means "anthropogenic climate change" in this context.

Really? Since you think youre so smart then why dont you show some proof that a manmade climate apocalypse is coming.

Oh so now youre saying some people wont do anything because it inconveniences them- so tell us, what have you done for the environment lately? Have you given up meat? Are you using an electric car? have you stopped going on planes? Please point out your contributions to the environment, Layne.

Yes, because the typical donor base for Republicans is... deep-pocketed environmentalists? Wait, what?

Let's look at his actual donors, shall we? By industry, donations to campaign and PAC in 2018, were:
• Retirees
• Real estate and general contractors
• Finance, banks and securities
• Lawyers
• Electric utilities

In fact, it doesn't look like he received any funding from environmental groups. Hmmm.
Rep. Francis Rooney - Florida District 19 • OpenSecrets

No surprise there, as environmental groups donate almost exclusively to Democrats. In 2018, only 3% of environmental PAC spending went to any Republicans. (Also not a surprise, the oil & gas industry spends 80% or more on Republicans, who -- surprise! -- usually oppose any action on climate change.)

It should be obvious that Rooney is listening to both his constituents and to scientists, not lobbyists.

Thanks, but no thanks, for the completely inaccurate and fact-free cynicism.
