If You had the ability to enact/repeal one law without congressional approval...

EXAMPLE: I talked to a retired DEA agent as a guest once. he said they busted a Russian dope smuggler at one time and he just laughed at all the threats the DEA said they would do to him. He told them once in a Russian prison he was buried up to his neck in gravel for two days in freezing temps outside. Now you people are threatening to lock me up in an air conditioned & heated luxury suite with three hot meals a day? Some of your American prison cells are better than some Russian apartments.

Then the cops are supposed to say, "well, we could let you go. Your Russian contacts will know you've been talking to us. What do you think they'll do?" Then the guy flips.

If you had the ability to automatically enact or repeal only one law without congressional approval, what would you choose and why?

I would choose anything relating to the environment to re-enact. Anything to help the environment I would support. What about the rest of you?
For something like this I say go big or go home.

I would choose one of the following 3

1. Repeal the 16th amendment and abolish the income tax
2. Repeal the 17th amendment and give states back their representation in the federal gov
3. Abolish the anchor baby clause that gives anyone born on our soil citizenship

Legalize pot and severely increase penalty on animal cruelty, including letting domesticated animals roam about, esp without being spayed/neutered, to any animal fighting.

Constitutional Amendment to dump Citizens United.

Create a "Religious crimes against humanity" Law.

Legalize drugs, but make it a long hard felony to sell to children, around children or schools, or to manufacture with children in the home....if you want to kill yourself with booze and drugs, do it....but leave the kids out of it.

Remove Jus Soli citizenship.

toss the chicken **** Electoral College into the dust bin of history ..............

I would enact a law that bans states and lower levels of government from banning, restricting, carrying any firearms.I would also ban any permit/licenses,taxes,registrations, extra back ground check requirements, fingerprints, as well as a ban on any sales restrictions that states might try to use as a backdoor or defacto ban.I would also make it so that states and lower levels of government can't restrict who can and can't get a gun. If states can't restrict religion, speech and other rights then then that should apply to the 2nd amendment as well.

Only one? That sucks, because I have a few ideas in mind.

Harsher penalties for animal abusers.
Legalization of marijuana for anyone over 18 along with regulations on the commerce (taxing, registration, subject to oversight and inspection, etc.).
Specificity on a national level of what constitutes a crime punishable by death. For instance, child killers and people who kill police officers should be put to death.
The removal of eminent domain, which is one of the worst SCOTUs decisions in history. By the way, it will be applied to build the border wall.

If not now, when?

The act would include strict enforcement requirements and mandate criminal penalties for lax or non-enforcement.

Precedent:

If we banned all Republicans from getting elected into any political offices, we'd only get a bunch of Manchin Democrats in our Congress. There are already a few Democrats in the Senate who agree more often than not with Trump. If we were to do that, we'd only have even more Democrats who agree with Trump a lot.

The entire controlled substances act.

Any drug policy should be based about realistic costs and benefits of criminalization vs. decriminalization vs. legalization, with the supposed dangers of various drugs considered soberly (aka, based on medical evidence, not scare-mongering) and considered in light of the fact that alcohol is legal.

So, for example, there are only a few out of the total number of recreational drugs for which the percentage of users who become addicted is higher than alcohol. (Cocaine whether powder or crack form, meth, heroin).

I'm a big proponent of harm reduction over eradication. The latter failed. If you can stop fentanyl OD's by setting up Switzerland-like heroin clinics, then go for it. It's not like anyone over there goes through all the paper work, public humiliation, etc., just to try heroin for the first time. The people who go are addicts not ready to quit. (This kind of approach commonly does not fly in America, which is fond of self-destructive "tough love").
