The major ISIS players are held elsewhere. Whatever is left are considered marginal players at worse. They wouldn't even exist if Obama hadn't been played so badly by Assad.

Assad had nothing to do with ISIL forming.

ISIL was created by the power vacuum in Iraq after we overthrew Saddam who kept religious extremists in check. Once he was removed the creation of a group like ISIS seeking religious retribution was almost certain. The Iraq government couldn't stop their creation and we had to step in and help.

Look, if there was even one former member of the JCOS, or anyone in statecraft back when we used to actually have any, or anyone in sufficient numbers in Congress, who also viewed this as sheer brilliance, I could actually entertain the notion that Trump craftily tossed a tarbaby to Russia, saying "It's YOUR problem now, suckers."

In order for it to be true however, one must remove ALL petroleum supply routes and all oilfields from the equation.
Because that is precisely what makes this a hot potato in the first place, and it is precisely why no one in the region is willing to allow the Kurds their own self-determination.

And the moment any of the Kurds has the balls and the temerity to suggest that all that oil in the ground is property of the Kurdish people, then suddenly they are COMMUNISTS to boot.
