Identity politics at its worst

We agree? Damn! Never thought that would happen.

Must mean that you’re evolving. Good for you! :applaud

more like my normalcy and common sense are rubbing off on you.

1. Neither party is “my party”.

2. I was clear that I disagree with identity politics. The same identity politics that Trump used in picking reverend Pence.

Old, white male? What does he bring to the ticket? No identity politics there. Because Pence is seen as a goodie two shoes, he may have been picked as an insurance policy to keep a rabid liberal from shooting Trump. As bad as you folks froth about how bad Trump is, it appears that it was a smart choice.

Does it bother you that Biden says he is going to pick his VP by skin color and sex? Why not pick the most qualified? This is identity politics at its absolute worst.

Back in January of last year I had her picked for president based on those factors - https://www.debatepolitics.com/bias-in-the-media/345835-another-made-up-story-liberal.html#post1069622437
Nothing has really changed since then.

Harris is black, but not too black. She's female but not stereotypically so. She's bought into all the pinko commie ideas but lets others talk about them while all she does is vote for them. She's a total bitch but not a shrieking one. Basically, she checks all the boxes that the Democrats wanted checked. Democrats are promoting an image because "idea" candidates tend to think independently and that can cause problems. Biden hasn't had an original idea since 1975 so he's good to go and Harris knows that as long as she doesn't do anything to uncheck one of those boxes she'll be president when Biden steps aside for medical reasons.

The VP pick should be the most qualified person who compliments or enhances the person running for president

Harris is definitely qualified, but I don't think she's going to help the ticket.

I would have preferred to see a fresh face. I personally don't care about the persons color or sex.

How is that any different than the way VP's have been picked from the beginning? If Ronald Reagan believed a Black woman would give him the best chance to win, he would have picked a Black woman. Reagan didn't like Bush, they were adversaries. He picked him because he thought he could unite to factions of the party and win.

Most VP picks have been White males because that's what people thought they needed to win. If Biden could pick a White male and have a better chance to defeat Con Man Trump, that's what he would do and I would support it.

So, what has really changed here? Biden needs to get women and Blacks on his side to win. He picked the person that gives him the best chance to win like every other candidate in history.

What's changed is that the followers of Dear Leader now have to scramble to find ways to attack Harris. That's all.

It is. And it is at it's worst, and has been since Obama poured his gas on the smoldering embers which were going out, but, hey! Anything for political advantage, is the motto of the left, right?

That's just how the cookie crumbles in 2020 America.

"Diversity" is the buzzword.

Personally, I am interested in having the most competent and ethical person fill every single office in the land.

And if that means that every office is filled by, say, Martians, that would be fine by me.

The idea that all public offices should represent a rainbow of diversity is nonsense, IMHO. That's why our nation is in such big trouble today.

"Personally, I am interested in having the most competent and ethical person fill every single office in the land."

A sentiment that I would share, but too bad that so many don't vote that way. It's really too bad for the nation.

It is CERTAINLY not clear that you "disagree" with identity politics. You have said not one word about Biden's pandering in her selection.

Ideally, as qualified as the person who’s job they may be required to ascend to.

Agree.

Race and gender are not the only characteristics used in identity politics. Wealth, position in society, religion, etc., are all used in identity politics.

Surely, you recognize that Trump’s choice of Pence was strictly identity politics. Pence had what Trump needed to help him win. Credibility with religious voters and name recognition in the interior states.

Damn! Is Pence black, too? I have to pay more attention, I suppose.

No one has to look for ways to attack her. Baden and rest of the dwarves gave us plenty of ammunition during the debates.

lol... Is that why the Trump followers are blurting out the absurd, misogynistic and racist nonsense to attack her this afternoon?

And you think Kamala wasn't a racist pandering pick?

You’re lying and just plain stupid.
You’re funny when you’re butt hurt. :lamo

I haven’t made any claim that selecting Harris as Biden’s VP running mate wasn’t a political move. Of course it was. Only a self deluded moron would argue otherwise.

Kinda like you claiming that Pence wasn’t picked by Trump for purely political reasons.

Get a clue.

Your president has built his entire presidency around "identity politics," which is just code for "keep all the non-white-males out." Quit whining. :)
Which is why he set records for lowest unemployment rate for blacks - 'cause he hated them so much. Biden just out "identity politicked" Trump by miles.

You were saying?
As who’s “most qualified” is subjective in several respects, why shouldn’t race or sex also be considered?

Don’t get me wrong, I disagree with dismissing entire other groups of people, based on their race and/or sex as a matter of fairness, but fairness doesn’t win nearly as often in politics as pragmatism.

Look at Trump and Pence. Do you think Trump picked Pence because he likes the guy and they share beliefs and interests? The two could not be more dissimilar. Trump needed a respected Midwest bible thumper to counter some of his own “character deficits”.

It's the cult religion of diversity in play here. It was expected he would choose a double diversity. A black woman transgender would of been the ultimate.
