I will never say "thank you for your service" to any veteran, here's why.

Here's why I don't thank veterans for their service.

1. They get paid. And they get free living, food, clothes, training, and a guaranteed job. All they had to do was be healthy, no serious crimes documented, and a high school diploma GED. Easiest job in the world to get.

2. I believe in compulsory military service. My father is from a country that had compulsory service for all able-bodied men. He had to serve. So should all Americans. No thank you's needed.

3. Once you graduate high school, you have three general choices: College, military, work. Very few people get good jobs right out of high school, mostly flipping burgers or retail. Those who are smart and/or worked hard in high school go onto college. Those who were too stupid/lazy to get into college and too proud to work at McDonald's or Target, go to the military to get a guaranteed job as noted above.

4. Veteran's benefits are good. Don't give me any BS sob story about VA health care. They get free college, great insurance, guaranteed home loans, you name it. All someone would have to do is be a cook in the army to get that.

5. Since the draft ended, military service is voluntary. Not since the draft has the US fought a righteous war, hell even Korea and Vietnam were worthless wars. The people who sign up know the risks, it is their choice.

So no, I will not thank any current or former volunteer military member for their service. If anything, they should be thanking the taxpayers (and the military industrial complex) to paying their salary, feeding them, and giving them illustrious post-service benefits for being too stupid/lazy to go to college or too proud to get a real job.

Sounds reasonable.

So, I imagine this thread will not go over well.

1. No one requires you to say it. It is an expression that remains an individual's free choice.

2. I served in the Army, but I didn't do it to impress anyone. I did it because I felt it was my duty as a citizen. So personally I don't need anyone to thank me for doing what I chose to do. I don't expect it, but I don't mind it.

3. No, I don't need to thank anyone for doing my duty.

4. Your "being too stupid/lazy to go to college or too proud to get a real job" comments say more about you than it does anyone else.

My dad was a cop for 30+ years, risking life and limb to protect his community (he was actually shot shortly after I was born but recovered and returned to work). I honestly don't recall anyone ever "thanking him for his service," though these days they are attacking his pension--as one of those takers represented by an evil public sector union!

So yeah, whatever. We all make the choices we do, take the paths we take, and get the compensation we get. Accolades are sort of beside the point.

1. Never said it was required. Just saying I will never say it.

2. Duty as a citizen? Nope. Voluntary. It was a duty during the draft. As for your intentions of signing up, only you really know the reason. The reason you give vs. the real reason are probably different. But once again, I'll never know. Only you do.

3. Yes you do. While I was working two jobs in college, you took 1/4 of every tax dollar I paid. You're welcome.

4. You going to the army says a lot more about what you were willing/capable of post graduation.

Once again, you're welcome.

Who said you had to thank any veteran? To believe those who willingly served and still serve to keep this Country free for ingrates like you is wholly arrogant - get over yourself and deflate your ego - I guarantee nobody has served this Country just to appease YOU.

Once again, I never said it was required. Just explaining why i have never, and will never say it to someone.

Keeping this country free???? When was the last time soldiers truly fought to keep the country free???? Last time we were invaded??? Last time we America truly fought for its existence/freedom: WWII at best.

Get over your typical cliche line about "those who serve keep us free." They keep us in debt. They keep the entire world hating us for soldiers overseas killing babies and raping young girls in Okinawa. Total BS.

Pick up a history book and read it.

Look it's ok if you were afraid to serve. We did it for you. Relax.....you are not all those things people call you. Lol

I agree with your point that our soldiers are sent to foreign countries to rape women and kill babies is total BS - I also suggest you do the same (read a history book - but not one written by a snowflake liberal). If you believe our military's efforts in other countries are fruitless, imagine what this country would be like without oil, or freedom of speech, or our other freedoms. Live in your father's country of origin (or any other socialistic, communistic, etc. country) and compare the average citizen's freedoms to an American's. You must have missed the great "Chinese proverb" who said "a good offense if the best defense." (let's see if you can figure out who actually said that.)

Oh yes, the typical "too afraid to serve line." So glad you brought this up. As I stated before, my father had to serve and wanted me to serve. I agreed on the condition of being a reservist so I could go to college at the same time. (since I got accepted to 4 of them). So I went to an Army and Coast Guard recruiter. Turns out, the metal plate in my arm that I received when I was 14 from a mountain biking accident precludes me from service.... So no, I was not too afraid to serve. The military wouldn't let me. Nice try....

I'm sorry you were too stupid to get a real job and had to rely on the government giving you a job. So pathetic... LOL

I believe in free will. I'd be a hypocrite if I said I believe in compulsory service and free will. The two concepts aren't compatible. The whole point of the country is ensuring individual freedom and liberty. If we ever get to the state of affairs where no one feels that's worth defending, then the citizenry would deserve to live under authoritarianism just as the bulk of humanity does today. I'm thankful that's not the case, so I have no problem thanking people who do it, regardless of the fact that they get a housing allowance, educational stipend, or whatever.

He did the job, he served his country, so he gets the benefits society promised him.

You don't owe him and he doesn't owe you, end of story.

Look it's fine. You want to disparage those that serve. That's fine.

It's also fine that you were too afraid too. War can be scary. We get it. I'm glad you did not have to go and be scared the whole time. People need to make up stories over why they were not there. It's ok. Relax. We took care of it for you

ROFL. Just keep going dummy. People like you make me so thankful that I wasn't a knuckle-dragging dumb**** in the military. No one is alive fought for true American freedom. Not you or the rest of the dummies who served.

Are firemen and paramedics stupid? They work for the government.

I'm someone that is an open critic of both military and police culture, but you're doing far more to empower them than you realize.

Huh? You just said you wanted in. That you wanted to be one of those knuckle draggers. Now you call them dummies....but you wanted to be one of those dummies.

Tell the truth.....you failed the asvab. Lol

One last thing, tell me why you weren't able to go to college after high school?

Lastly, you're welcome. People like me will continue to work in the real world to pay taxes so dummies like you can get an easy job and fake praise. That's all it is.

I am an open critic of military and police culture as well. They are already empowered beyond belief.

Uh I went before the military. You do know you can do that......right? Lol

Sure you did..... Keep lying about why you were too stupid to get into college lol
