I Quit Breitbart Because Of The Lying. Sarah Huckabee Sanders Should Take A Cue.

Everybody lies. It’s just a fact of life. We lie to our spouses when they ask, “Do you like my shoes?” and we say “yes.” We lie to our friends when we say we can’t go out because of another obligation when we’re really binge-watching “Game of Thrones” on the couch. We lie to our bosses when we call in sick to work when really, we hit it a little too hard at happy hour the night before. We lie to our kids when they ask us if a certain mythical creature who trespasses every Christmas Eve is real. When we are kids, we lie to our parents to avoid getting into trouble, even though it rarely works. These “white lies” of course are completely harmless and can even be an act of friendship or love. But what happens when your job requires you to lie or when you know your boss is lying to you? What happens when the lies you tell aren’t harmless, but are incredibly consequential? This is the predicament White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders found herself in Thursday afternoon at the White House press briefing. In the wake of Trump legal adviser Rudy Giuliani’s revelation that President Donald Trump reimbursed his attorney Michael Cohen for a six-figure payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels, Sanders was besieged with questions about her own statements to the press about the payment.

In March, Sanders was quoted in The New York Times saying, “I’ve had conversations with the president about this. … There was no knowledge of any payments from the president, and he has denied all these allegations.” On Thursday, Sanders was confronted by the White House press corps with direct questions no spokesperson ever wants to hear: “Were you lying to us at the time? Or were you in the dark?” It’s a fair question. Either Sanders was lying about her conversations with the president in March or the president lied to her in those conversations. Neither answer is a good one if you’re Sanders. But what Sanders is going through right now reminds me very much of what I went through before I made the decision to resign working with Breitbart News in the wake of an incident between then-Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields and then-Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. When you get to a point when you are being lied to, you know you are being lied to, and the reporters you are talking to know you are lying to them, it’s time to walk away. I know better than most that walking away is not an easy thing to do. But at some point, you should be able to look yourself in the mirror and own the choices you have made. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is at an inflection point in her career where she can be remembered either as the person who helped Donald Trump lie every day or as the person who said “enough is enough” and did something about it.

Sarah Huckabee-Sanders graduated form an evangelical Baptist university. Her ethical position as Press Secretary has become untenable.

Either she is true to her upbringing, or she continues to defend an habitual liar with additional blatant lies.

She can't have it both ways when history delivers its verdict of the Trump era.

Stripping away the unnecessary words, the bottom line is Sanders is supposed to be excused from the inner working of legal issues. If she is privy to conversations, arguments, strategy, she could possibly be called as a witness. (a tactical move by the opposition, BTW)

She deals with the best information she has at the time.

So she was lied to when she said Trump denies the allegations.

So who is lying here? The administration, Sanders, or both?

Haven't they meaning the administration AND trump AND his private representatives gotten to the point where you just can't believe anything they say anymore?

Now Rudy having claimed multiple stories about the Daniels payment is claiming that he does not know when Trump found out about the payments. Rudy is "still investigating that". My butt end he is. They have driven over themselves so many times they just have no clue where they are and simply try to keep spinning out new tales. Now Kelly Ann is carting out a total fabrication about Trump's Air Force 1 statement. Sorry kellyann....contradicting the video is not going to get you very far.

But remember, they (administration) get away with this because no one holds them in check.

Due to this, they've become extremely emboldened. It strikes me as quite dangerous, actually.

I like how Democrats get all woke and stuff when a Republican lies, and then sit back all comfy and silent when the likes of Josh Earnst and Jay Carney lie their asses off. I suppose eloquence matters; style over substance, or rather, since there is no substance... just style.

Whataboutism strikes again.

One thing that I've noticed is that this administration is being held in check more than any other recent one. That's a good thing.

Whataboutism strikes again.

Whataboutism: the cry heard when someone is accused of being a hypocrite and can't defend against it.

There's another thread on DP discussing the extreme hypocrisy problem on the right. There is no more stark an example of this hypocrisy than the continued tenure of Sarah Hucka-lie.

Spin. The continued changing stories coming out of the Trumpster fire administration an their acceptance by you and your buddies on the right is legendary.

"The extreme hypocrisy problem on the right," huh?

Let me ask you something: how do you feel about the Stormy Daniels thing? Does Trump's philandering and cavorting seem, I don't know, unpresidential to you?

(Also: I don't defend Trump. He's god-awful. I just can't abide hypocrites.)

Whataboutism: the cry heard when someone is accused of being a hypocrite and can't defend against it.

Whataboutism as used by its proponents is the lame excuse from someone that simply does not recognize the difference between standard, accepted political license which is an actual effort to at least touch the truth and remain at the least on the same page with the truth and the complete destruction of the norms that are the foundation of this country because they figure nobody really remembers what guys like Josh actually said from that podium. Most people in this country don't remember what happened yesterday. So that turns out to be a pretty good bet. We have never seen outright lying on this scale before.

Nor have we seen lying this broadly based before. Even Nixon managed to be truthful on many topics. There is not a single topic that Trump and his underlings miss. It has gotten to the point that if one of them called the White House white, we would be forced to question it.

Sorry there is no comparison between the wholesale lying distributed by trump, his representatives and this administration than anything we have seen since Nixon. In fact it surpasses Nixon and has done it in one year. It surpasses Clinton and has done it in one year. The ability to ignore the existence of scales is the very description of Whataboutism.

Democrats: Trump is a moral cesspit! He slept with a porn star! That makes him a bad president!
Any Sane, Rational Person: So, Clinton was a terrible president?
Democrats: No, he was THE BEST President, until the next Democrat!
Any Sane, Rational Person: So, even though he straight-up raped several women and threatened them to be quit, he was awesome?
Democrats: WHATABOUTISM!!!!@!!!!

Jay Carney and Josh Earnest lied, unflinchingly and unconvincingly, every single time they were at the podium. You can call it spin if you want to, but the stuff they said wasn't true. It's the job of the person at that podium to spin and lie. Sanders-Huckabee is doing it, too? You don't say! Color me unsurprised.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Trump's philandering is his and his family's business. When these porn stars and playmates are paid off illegally in order to win an election, they then become the people's business.

The hypocrisy on the right is on full display when the right was wringing its hands over Clinton's affairs but then the same GOP officials and right-wing evangelists give Trump a pass.

I've never heard of either of those two people. Being left of far right should I automatically know them? What about the president of the US? When's the last time you've criticized him for being dishonest? Press secretaries parrot the dumbass **** their bosses tell them.

And Rudy and Trump himself and Pruitt and lawyer Dowd and KellyAnn and Gen Kelly and Second coming Pence and Zenke and Price and Carson and Mulvaney. The list goes on and on and on and I could continue on. There is not a single beat this administration misses. It lies about every conceivable topic all the time. The only dif is that its most vocal representatives are its biggest liars and that is again a matter of scale. Those that open their mouths the most, lie the most.

Mattis is about the only guy left that has not engaged in the wholesale lie-fest and he does not talk often enough to know where he might be in the spectrum of the norms of political license and outright lying on a grand scale.

What is interesting about that is the degree to which an administration is bent into the form of the president. We have a president for whom the truth or any truth was never the option of choice throughout his public and business life. Even if no gain can be perceived by a normal thinking human, Trump will and has chosen a lie instead. He lies about everything from the most meaningless topic to the most meaningful and everything in between.

When you can't admit that you simply got a guy's name wrong that you were calling out from the podium during the State of the Union, when you don't have enough normal human fortitude to just say you got the name wrong, you have simply lost all perspective because the truth simply does not leave your lips enough times for it to feel like its the norm or even a comfortable place to be. You can literally watch Trump choosing a lie over the truth as he stands there real time. We have never had THAT for a president.

Democrats: Trump is a moral cesspit! He slept with a porn star! That makes him a bad president!

I'm having trouble thinking of someone on the left who has said this. I certainly do not find it typical of attitudes on the left. Speaking for myself, I don't care about the sex lives of politicians just as such, provided they aren't raping people or molesting children or doing something else that really would be immoral. The stuff Roy Moore was accused of would be immoral (assuming the accusations are true). Having sex with a porn star, inserting a cigar into an intern's vagina, and so on, do not qualify as immoral acts in my view. Rather the contrary, I think intelligent healthy people have strong sex drives and having lots of sexual partners and being interested in sex generally is indicative of someone who will be able to lead effectively.

However, lying under oath (as Clinton did) is a whole 'nother issue. He should have gone to jail for perjury but got off on a very hair-splitting technicality, and in my book that's a mark against him that cannot be erased. In Trump's case, he engaged in a cover-up of the affair to present a false image of himself to people who do care about the President's sex life, because he knew he'd need them to vote for him. That qualifies as an immoral act, and that, not the sex itself, is the problem as far as I can tell.

Yeah, right.

Who are these non lying sources you go to instead? HUFF Po?:lamo:lamo:lamo

You have some proof of the bolded, of course. No?

The investigation is ongoing. Cohen and Trump are thugs - you know it, I know it. It's just a matter of time. The Starr probe went on for years before they nailed Clinton for lying about an affair. You're just going to have to be patient.

So in other words, no, you dont have proof. Thats what I thought.
