From Fox News:

Singer Willie Nelson said Tuesday he wasn’t bothered by the backlash he has received over the decision to headline a rally for Texas Democratic Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke.

When asked by the hosts of “The View” about his fans’ reaction to him headlining for O’Rourke, Nelson replied “I don’t care.”

 I doubt he ever would have, he's always lived his life his own way. But I'm sure at this point he couldn't care less; nor should he.

I'm not quite his age but IF I ever cared what people think to the point it changed my way of being … I quit a LONG time ago.

Good on ya Willie! :)

What? Did anyone think Willie was a conservative?
Right! Who cares!!

I saw this story, and was wondering who thought Willie Nelson ever supported conservatives?

He's one of my favorites. It would be a tough call, but if I had to have only 1 CD it might be Willie and Family Live from 1978. Wore it out when I bought it on vinyl, then on a cassette, then got the CD and it's a been a regular part of my playlist for decades now.

And anyone upset about him endorsing Beto can't be more than a very recent fan or very young. He's an 85 year old hippie for goodness sake.

Yeah, he was left before I was a teenager. Not sure why this move surprised anyone. Country music doesn't force a particular political stance.

I'm not really into a lot of country, but I've always liked Willie as a person. He's real, and he seems to treat others pretty damn well.

Well the conservatives always has Ted Nugent on their side...

Interesting that Trump is uniting such disparate artists as an iconic old-school traditional country Texan, and an iconic irreverent Detroit Rapper.

Unfortunately for Trump, he's uniting them against him.

But the strangest phenomenon of all, is if Breitbart or Fox runs an article on this, in the comments sections the hard-core Trump GOPers will turn against him (Nelson). Just as they turned against Harley Davidson, Law Enforcement, Fiscal Conservatism, John McCain, Free Speech, Free Trade, and a whole host of what formerly were their core values and iconic products, genres, and individuals. I really don't know what they stand for anymore.

Well he does have commonality with Trump - Draft Dodging!

And Trigger is almost as as old! They're a matched pair, of a long gone era!

Even if Willie was a Republican what choice would he have? No one likes Ted Cruz. Republicans don't like him. Ted now swears that if Beto is elected Beto will outlaw BBQ in Texas. Cruz just insulted the intelligence of everyone in Texas. Unfortunately the BBQ threat may be enough for some people in Texas to vote for Cruz.

As has so often been the case, however, Willie Nelson brings light and common sense to the topic. Willie ain't no dummy.

Speaking of that! One of the things I didn't appreciate for a long time about Willie Nelson, and it's that he's really fantastic on the guitar, especially his live stuff. I don't know if his style is more blues or jazz or country or some unique mix, but the more I listened to him the more that's what I paid attention to. He's one of the good ones. :peace

Gotta give the guy credit for doing what (for some) would be considered career suicide. That being said, Willie is a stronghold and always has been. He does what he wants, and, like he said, he doesn't care.

If his fans are just now realizing Willie is no fan of conservatism then they aren't really fans.

Up north, the bolded is what we call a "permission slip". It gives cover to prejudiced voters to cast their votes in a way not requiring logical justification, though it's usually used in racial, religious, or ethnic context.

For example: A white guy may not want to proudly proclaim he will never vote for a black president, but he can publicly justify his vote by claiming he will never vote for an "Kenyan".

Good for Willie. Lets hope they raise lots of money for a great cause.

btw- my favorite of his... PRETTY PAPER.

God knows how, but I stumbled on, and sat through a youtube vid of an old guy repairing Willie's guitar Trigger once!

It is well known as soon as a celebrity goes POLITICAL they loose about half their fan base.

Saying he does not care to loose them was a bad move in my opinion.
It displays an elitist attitude.

It would have been much better for him to say he is merely expressing his right to support the candidate of his choice.
That is much more forgiving.
Saying you don't give a rat's ass will pretty much guarantee no more buying from them if they were on the fence about it.

I am sure there are plenty of conservatives who will vote for this guy too, but not spend any money on his products because he has said he does not care what his fans think.

Bad move for Willie.

Support who you want to Willie, but NEVER say you don't care about your fans.

I don't think it's elitist at all; I think it's independence. Willie has always gone his own way, and now he's at a stage of life (and also health) where his attitude may be "Peepaw don't give a ****."

Elitist or indepenent...matters not.
You NEVER say you don't care for your fans.
That kills sales.

I am at that stage of life too, but still care about what my friends and loved ones think, and what legacy i will leave behind.

I always saw him as more of a libertarian.

Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash are really the only two country-music artists that I like. Country music is almost all you can get on the radio here, and I'm not really into how every song seems to be some form of "Look at how redneck I am! I love trucks and Jesus and . . ." Even without the obvious pandering, it's not my cup of tea, but with the pandering, it's unbearable.

I'd much rather listen to southern rock.
