Holiday celebrations remind me I'm getting older and uglier everyday, but I am thankful for the opportunities each day brings.

Meanwhile, earlier this evening while celebrating over dinner at my son and daughter in law's home, during dinner, three of my older grandkids made sure I viewed this on their iPads:

I am sorry to hear that your day was not all that.

It was all in good fun, don't get me wrong. Better was the skit the younger kids put on imitating my sons and myself getting ready to go fishing very early in the morning, before we've had our coffee. And I received a terrific gift, a thick butternut cane, having relief carvings of birds in flight, with an elegant carved hexagon black glass head that unscrews to reveal a 3/4 pint flask inside. It's what I needed when I can't stand up straight unassisted, booze.

Believe me, I am not getting better, definitely uglier. I asked my 12 year old neighbor if I wore a red flower barrette in my hair like she does, would I look prettier? Without hesitation, she said "No hope." Then she offered realistic advice saying, "Eating a cookie usually makes me feel better, and your wife makes good cookies."

My wife does not bake cookies, I do. And then the grandkids complain they learned in school cookies are bad for your health and make you fat. Then they ask for milk to wash down the cookies. There's no hope.
