How many NFL QB' s are better than Kaepernick?

Lets look at those numbers at the end of a season, not 1/4 of the way through

Keep your head in the sand, it would take historic ratings in the last half of the season to even bring them back up to what they were last year. Not to mention the ratings have dropped so low that FOX and CBS are being hurt financially by them.

There are 32 team in the National Football League which means there are at least 64 quarterbacks - and more as the season goes by to replace injuries.

So here is the simple question: based on ability, how many of those current 64 are better QB's that Colin Kaepernick?

Here are his stats

Colin Kaepernick Stats - ESPN

If if he is better than some current NFL QB's - where you would rank him?

Well, just based on skill he isn't the worst but a QB's job is more than just skill.

I'm still watching as much MLB and NFL as ever, if not more with my reverse boycott, though I am muting the TV and am listening to as much AM radio and XM Sirius radio as possible ...

Can we do the same with the Presidential approval rating?

Based on what I've seen of him ever since defenses got used to and learned how to defend the option, I think he's probably worse than all 32 starters, or at the very least has less potential than them. He might be better currently than Trubisky for instance, but Trubisky has a higher ceiling. I don't think he'd be in the top tier of backups either. I don't think I could say he's substantially worse than some of the backups in the league, but I can't say he's clearly better than any of them either.

So first, lets ignore the fact that a football decision is not necessarily required to be made singularly on stats.

Now, let's get to something more important; stats don't even tell the whole story about stats.

Take my Redskins for instance.

Is Colin Kaepernick better than Colt McCoy? You could probably make a stat based argument on that, and it's indisputable that at some point he absolutely was monumentally better than Colt McCoy.

However...

Colt McCoy now has 3 full seasons under his belt under Jay Gruden, has started and won games as the backup, and has demonstrated a strong understanding of Jay Gruden's playbook. Jay Gruden has expressed immense confidence in Colt McCoy, to the point where people in the area speculated that they would potentially go with McCoy if someone paid the draft pick cost to get Cousins this year. This is despite the fact there were likely other potential quarterbacks out there that, stats wise, could be argued as better than Colt McCoy as well.

Familiarity with a system, trust of the coaching staff to function within that system, and experience with the players on the roster are all clearly FOOTBALL (not business, not even "intangible" personality type things) related things that could lead someone who looks worse in the pure "stats" department to be a more preferred option over someone who is "better" in the stats department.

What's the most obnoxious thing about this whole ordeal is watching non hardcore football fans wading into these discussions making absolutely idiotic arguments or illogical ones within the scope and reality of how the NFL works and has worked for years now.

That's also a good point. The system's important. Drew Stanton certainly isn't anywhere near the best at anything in the NFL, but he's been with the Cardinals since 2013 and knows their system cold. He's probably better suited to be their backup in case of injury than a quarter back who has better instinctual and athletic abilities but was just signed on the team the week before.

Kaepernick outplayed Alex Smith in San Francisco. That's why Alex Smith was traded to the Chiefs. Kaepernick took his team to the Super Bowl. Has Alex Smith taken the Chiefs to the SB yet?

WTH Has Matt Cassell done in the past 5 years? He doesn't even belong in the NFL.

Don't think there are many who would agree with you that Kap is better than Alex Smith now.

Two questions.

Has Alex Smith ever taken his team to the Super Bowl.

Will Alex Smith take the Chiefs this year or another team in the future to a SB?

I'll just ask a third question. If Smith is such a good QB, than why did the Chiefs draft his replacelement already this year?

Is whether a QB has taken a team to a Super Bowl or not really the best measurement for how good a QB is? Especially when circumstances have changed so much since then. Alex Smith has led the Chiefs to a 46-21 record and three playoff appearances since then while Kaepernick has not been to the playoffs since and was benched while healthy for a woeful Blaine Gabbert. Now there's more that comes into play here like the rest of the team's quality, which may actually hurt Kaepernick's case with all the high level talent on the 2013 49ers, but I don't see much pointing to Kaep being a better QB at this point in time than Smith. It seems more likely to me that the gimmicky option offense he ran took the NFL by storm at first, but was eventually caught up to by NFL defenses.

Ironic considering Alex Smith played in a spread offense in college and his weaknesses are masked by good coaching.

Hey, maybe. Andy Reid's a great coach. But he's still producing better results consistently. And the chasm between their results is just so mindblowingly large I don't think you can realistically say that coaching is the deciding factor between the two. I'm a Missouri fan. I watched Blaine Gabbert for years. I was excited for him in Jacksonville. You cannot be a good quarterback and be benched while healthy in favor of him.

Colin Kaepernick is also going to come with a lot of baggage. If he wanted to play he should have thought of the ramifications of his actions before-hand. Especially since it turned out many of his comments were insincere. Like when he claimed he didn't vote in the election for Hillary or Trump but then it turned out he wasn't registered in the first place. And don't even get me started on his socio-path girlfriend. Even if Kaepernick promises not to bring "the drama", the woman he's shacking up with will make noise. Many people rightfully blame her for why Kap didn't get a contract with The Ravens.

Do you remember when the Bears legend Mike Singletary was the coach of the 49'ers?

He was benched in favor of Troy Smith and in one game, the fans were chanting for David Carr to come in the game for Alex Smith.

That's also past history. Kaepernick imploded, and Alex Smith has flourished at KC. This year he looks as good or better than any quarterback in the NFL. I am stunned at his development, but better late than never.

KC looks like a super bowl contender.

I am still amazed someone in this thread thinks Matt Cassel is better than Colin Kaepernick.

He's the worst backup QB in the NFL.

Flacco is also paying disgraceful football.

His backup doesn't deserve to be in the NFL either - Ryan Mallett.

And yet...there they are. In the NFL. Someone who actually gets PAID for their opinion disagrees with you.

So your trying to artificially inflate the ratings, lol

Kaepernick hasnt played well since 2013. He was benched in 2015 and 16 because of his attrocious performance.

Your Argument that because Kapernick went to the SB hes a good QB is laughable. Rex Grossman went to th SB but Matt Staffors never has. Is Rex better than Staffors? Or Rivers?

Trent Dilfer agrees.

Kap was benched in 2016 because Chip Kelly is a moron.

Now that Rodgers has a boo-boo it would be hilarious if green bay brought back farve as a starter and ck as his back up..

Now that would make the news...:-) :-) :-)

By that time, the trump approval ratings will be far worse than today
