I would prefer to see all illegal immigration stopped. That though still leaves asylum seekers and refugees to be properly processed. Then add in a better and probably much larger legal immigration system that can deal with the volume that will be required if illegal immigration is shut down.

Also build the southern border wall, improve electronic monitoring, improve seismic monitoring, and start seismic testing to find and destroy all tunnels.

Re-establish remain in Mexico, and also increase the number of Immigration judges to process actual asylum and legal applications for citizenship.

Finally, take all the crappy "exceptions" out of the attempt to create the recent "immigration law" while keeping in all the most restrictive requirements and significantly reduce the number of immigrants that can be processed on a day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month basis.

I agree pretty much, though any spending increases should IMO go to border patrol and protection, with any added Immigration judges added as a direct result of decreased spending needed to protect the border. And before allowed entry at a border crossing, those seeking asylum or refugee status should be made aware of what they need at a hearing so that if they gain entry the process can be performed efficiently.

Just something about how some government workers perform their jobs:
Some of my Laos, Cambodian, and Vietnamese friends who were younger than me during the war, lacking a birth certificate or any other documentation after immigrating to the U.S. after the war in VN became older than me by 5-10 years when they showed me their drivers license. They told me they were told to add a few years to their age and they could gain SS benefits earlier. They would all be in their 90's today. Were my several friends the only ones?

There are likely (at least) 1B people who would rather be in the US than wherever they are now. If you allow those folks to enter the US then you must decide whether (when?) to grant them the privileges of US citizenship or (forever?) have a (majority?) non-citizen ‘underclass’ with different privileges.
