How Long Would You Work Unpaid?

Your statement was clearly filled with hate, contempt, and ignorance. No question about that.

"Where do you see hatred in my suggestion that Federal workers are lazy and don't want to work? I'm sooo confuuuuuused."

When I was still working for a Federal agency and went through a few shutdowns. The employees were instructed by HR and management that those who are being furloughed were not to come to work. The employees were not to come to the office, use any government equipment, etc. Basically the employees were being locked out.
Many of the employees wanted to keep working even if it meant working without pay till a budget is passed. They cared about the land they worked on.

As far as seeking a new job in the private sector. It depends on what the employee does for the Federal government. imo, there are not than many job openings for wildlife biologist, range management, wild horse and burro, foresters, recreational specialists, etc. Yes, there are jobs in the private sector in these fields, but not as many as the federal government.

Possibly, but that's not the point.

I proved your point wrong that you think the "whole idea that government workers are starving or losing their homes is bogus."
They won't be able to live much longer without paychecks. You have no point. That is a fact.

78% of the public live paycheck to paycheck and most people are not self employed business owners.

Nobody is getting foreclosed because of this. We are talking about 1 paycheck at this point.

We are seeing a lot of hyperbole and political rhetoric. People's lights are not being shut off.

It is 100% bogus. Democrats are acting like people cannot afford meals or losing their cars and homes. It has been 1 paycheck for goodness sakes. CALM DOWN!

So name that one person that is starving or losing their home. As I understand it, no one to date has missed a check.

Right now they can't pay for childcare, they have no healthcare and can probably barely afford to put food on the tables for their families, they certainly cannot pay their mortgage. The gov'ts lights certainly are turned off and it won't be long before these other worse case scenarios you talked about come to pass.

Seems to be many people are being asked to work with pay "deferred." How long would you accept such a condition before looking for a new job?

I know what I would do. Skip one paycheck, and I'm immediately going somewhere I can expect to be paid on time. Of course, I don't work for the government. So, if my check gets missed, the company is probably going bankrupt. But, the question remains. How long would you continue working for no pay?

I could make it a month, no longer. trump is a major asshole. these people he's using as pawns for his Quixotic wall have families. **** him and **** all the politicians responsible. The politicians are getting paid, they are without empathy. May they all burn in hell.

What on earth are you talking about it?

Usually, you have to wait 90 days being late before your lights get shut off.

Stop. You are being very dishonest. People that may read your dishonest post may start to panic and may do something they will really regret.

Not 2 seconds. I have a life and bills to pay. Money talks and you know what walks. Trump is using this shout down as a attempted to get what he wants and many people will be hurt by this. Show some caring and open the shout down. Do the right thing. Dems, be the adult in the room. No one else will.

Most people should have a six-month emergency fund.

Multi billionaire like Trump should just put up the money and get reimbursed by Mexico.

It depends what kind of job I had. If I had a high ranking job, like a geophysicist with the US Geological Survey and it paid real well, I could wait a long time.

If I was a low paid TSA worker, I'd be looking for a job two weeks ago. It's not worth staying around for, to be jacked around by the govt. The shutdown should not have occurred at all.

All government employees should continue working. They WILL get paid.

Just heard that TSA people get paid, on general, $40,000 a year. With all due respect, many of them could probably not get a job with similar pay in the private sector.

Government employees, in effect, enjoy the fruits of socialism:

1. Good pay.

2. Guaranteed work. (Managers are loath to fire them -- for certain reasons).

3. Good health care.

Government workers should express their gratitude by continuing to work. Every day, they should thank God/Fate/Karma, etc. that they are one of the lucky Americans that work for the government. Those workers who are currently calling in "sick" are ingrates.

And how are these workers going to pay the rent? Thank goodness I gave up my Federal position to go into Defense Contracting. I dont blame those Fed workers calling in sick to take temp job to pay the car loan. As for you calling them ingrates, I hope you never need assistance from the Feds. I got caught up in the 2013 shutdown, it sucked. Our agency actually got shot down. Screw the Feds, I get way better pay, more benefits, and 30 days vacation.

Air travel is getting more delayed and incrementally less safe every single day. Trump doesn't care. He thinks it mostly hurts Democrats.

Smart people do. Especially if this happens on a regular basis. Shutdowns do.

- If they are not going to work then they don't need childcare.
- Healthcare insurance continues.
"Both the online FAQ and the health insurance industry's trade association confirm that coverage through the Federal Employees Health Benefits program will continue even if some federal agencies affected by the shutdown aren't issuing those paychecks and or paying the insurance premiums."

imo, the shutdown needs to end now. The passing of incorrect information also needs to end now.

You do understand that yesterday was the first check and pay period missed? I do get that the lunatic left has their hardship stories locked a loaded and ready to go but aren’t they a bit premature with this?

Let’s look at the hysteria shall we, any claim that federal workers will be without healthcare during this furloughed period is nonsense and a total lie.

As for childcare, utilities, mortgage rent and other, I have a pretty high confidence level that these federal workers figured out twice monthly pay periods long ago. Again, It’s been less than 24hours, how has all this carnage and hardship happen so fast?

i'd probably give them a month. i could possibly float that, assuming no large unexpected expenses. i'd probably start applying for something else before that, though, and my productivity at work would drop a little less than noticeably. i'd do my best to appear dedicated, but i would not push myself.
