Big enough to stick almost all the popular countries from the other continents into it.

I've read about the fake maps we grew up with, maps which intentionally minimized the "Dark Continent." But, the pic above really makes that clear, IMO.

lol...learned something today after pulling up a map to see which African countries really occupy those spaces. Guessing first, I noticed that I had about a 50% chance of being right. And then I discovered that there was one fairly large country up on the NW shore, just above Senegal, which I never heard of before, but probably should have.

Why should I care?

Africa is a sleeping giant and barring humanity destroying itself, WILL be the driving force behind global economic growth.

The only question is who will benefit from that growth, at the moment, the African people?

Or an elite few Africans and foreign owned corporations simply extracting the wealth, it will be a mixed bag, but China appears to want to do the former and they appear to have quite a head start.

You should care about an important place.

Failed intelligentsia at work.

You used to be better.

Why is it important?

See the problem here?

I know how lazy and mentally ill the Left is these days, but it is time for You'all to either make sound arguments, or get laughed out of any room you are in.

As you noted, China is strongly addressing involvement in Africa, currently doing infrastructure in exchange for the host country's debt, thereby gaining geo-political advantage.

Seems like they’re cheating a little bit trying to cram the UK into Madagascar.

It also kind of sucks that my city has been relocated to Liberia. I’d have preferred Morocco, myself.

Africa is going to be a supply source for THE NEW CHINESE EMPIRE, due to decades long mismanagement of Africa by the Western Elite.

We ****ed ourselves here, as you should know, and as you should be honest about.

So what?? Africa is a CONTINENT. America is a CONTINENT. All those countries would probably fit into America also.

In all of Africa, is there a single advanced nation? Instead of thinking about how many square miles it is, why not think about how it got to be so poor, and whether it might ever recover.

North America is a continent. America is a country.

China is buying Africa one collective farm at a time. They cut whichever politician greased the ways for them in on the profits and move to the next one.

Yep. It is one of the last countries on Earth where chattel slavery is still socially accepted.

Curiosity and inquiry are signs of intelligence but can be inconvenient. You're probably better off without them.

Why should I care?

Better not to care about anything - much easier that way. Not caring is golden attitude, way to go.

For me that map was interesting as it shows how big Africa is and it should "trigger" some brain cells. But maybe Not giving a F*** is smarter way, who knows :)

Notice how you completely fail to address the question.

Did you used to be better?

The question on the table is why should I care about Africa?

The answer has not been forthcoming.

Answer: In the minds of some fools, the bigger your continent is, the cooler you are. Hence map projections such as the Mercator projection that preserve angles rather than area are white man's plot to make whites seem uber-cool (since the areas of latitudes closer to the poles, which are typically more white, are increasingly distorted). It's a conspiracy theory that's been around since the 1980's at least.

A similar conspiracy theory alleges that maps are rendered with the north pole at the top of the map (rather than the bottom, which is the second alternative) because cartographers want to make the (more white) northern hemisphere seem cooler than the (less white) southern hemisphere by appearing "on top" of it, in the same sense as hierarchies are described as being top-down.

To preemptively answer your second and third questions: No, this is not a joke. And yes, you can cite this as proof there are no limits on how far into absurdity people will march in their urgent quest to be offended by something.

Having got that out of the way, I want to hear all about these "fake maps we grew up with". lol.gif
