I don't have a link yet, but I will soon. It has just been announce that Annise Parker has become the first openly gay mayor in Houston history. Quite a surprise, and Parker will be an excellent mayor. As Houston City Controller, she did a superb job.
Just goes to show you that Houstonians are not the stereotyped hillbillies they are made out to be.
I will post a link as soon as I can get one.

EDIT: This from the New York Times, showing Parker with a slim lead, but the election is now over. Will have a better link as soon as it comes in.
EDIT2: And here it is. Gene Locke, Parker's opponent, has conceded.
