Home Owners who pay more than $10 in property taxes, must read!

Seems more like the anger should be directed toward state and local politicians for making the tax rates astronomical.

No they are not astronomical. The anger is placed appropriately. Repuke scumbags and emperor tweeto.

I live in CA so my Fed taxes are probably going up. Property taxes in CA are pretty decent but CA is otherwise heavily taxed. Perhaps, the silver lining of the new tax plan will be that states like CA and NY will think twice about rasing taxes since the write off is capped. I could even see a populist running on a tax cut platform even doing well in CA.

There is, We are.

I love that my state is being forced to reckon with thier abusive tax policies.

If one needs Federal exemptions in order to afford them, they are astronomical.

Its not a matter of afford, I can still afford where I live. But people make major decisions about where they live and how much house they can afford based on current rules which have been in existence for quite some time. It not easy to change those circumstances. NY already contributes more to the Federal Government than they receive. Apparently not enough for the repuke scumbags in congress. I guess we will have to get more back to even things out.

Again, it sounds like the anger should be directed at the state and local politicians for setting astronomical tax rates. You can’t set tax rates dependent on federal exemptions, and then blame the federal government when those exemptions disappear. They need to cut taxes.

The purpose of the deductions in the federal tax code was to promote home ownership. And now the purpose of the tax code is to get everyone to be a pass through entity or corporation. No it sounds like the anger should be squarely placed on the idiot, scumbag repukes in congress.

You already had your mind made up on who you would blame. Of course you won’t hold your local and state politicians accountable, and that’s why your situation will never improve.

Our tax bills are due every February, and I hate to think of what mine are going to be with three new schools being built, not to mention all the newest computers etc that they're planning on buying... Aargh!

According to what we're being told, the current schools will not be torn down, but leased to any businesses who are interested in using them. This is what they have done in the past, so that doesn't shock me! Their argument has always been that new revenue will be available for spending, so it's a good idea. Whatever...

When I lived in Forest Park, GA. they tried to get a new school bond through to build a new school. Problem was they already had two schools, buildings that the city wanted to lease to some Atlanta organization instead of letting the kids continue in those schools. It was voted down.

Since the school bond vote occurred on the normal election ballot in November, the city decided they would hold a special election once more on the school bond two days after the 4th of July the following year. When very few people would go vote on just a bond issue right after a big holiday. Of course the city made sure all the teachers and staff knew exactly when the vote would be held. It passed with only around a 10% voter turnout. I moved then from Clayton County to Henry county and have been here ever since.

Damn kids. :2razz:

Our town just voted to approve a $10M renovation project to our HS... keep in mind we only have about 325 HS students. Needed to be done though as the last major capital expense was done in 1968.

Greetings, Winchester. :2wave:

Since we are semi-rural, with three major highways going through our small city, I really won't be too surprised to hear we're also going to need new school buses in the near future!

Our last major capital expense was to build a new high school in 2008, and we had new computers and other electronics bought for that school, so other than building a new football stadium, the new buildings will be two new elementary schools and one middle school, which they are calling a "campus type facility," - for what that's worth! The past few months the contractors have been very busy working to get the ground graded with lots of bulldozers, graders, and other large machines, but fortunately for me nothing close to my part of town, cause it's very noisy and very messy with all the trees and other brush sitting in huge piles to be disposed of! Whew! Who knew "progress" had to be so disruptive? :lamo

To top it off, City Council has just voted to buy a two hundred+ acre farm for sale here, which they intend to convert to various size lots on brand new streets for sale to potentially higher end home buyers, so it looks like the little town I grew up in is going to get larger soon! Maybe they think they'll need all those new schools to entice buyers to live here? I dunno.....

Yeah, it's pretty insane.

Yeah, my sister lived in N. NJ for a while. Property taxes were way higher than the DC metro area, and that's bad.

Here, it's almost DC metro rates. That's one of the ways this state keeps money coming in with no state INCOME tax. They tax everything else - a lot. Sales and property are way higher than they should be.

That's stupid, bro. What I can't fathom, is for all you "tax the rich" guys, why you are all so butthurt over million dollar home owners, (or in my case more), having to pay more.

"You don't "need" a million dollar home". BUAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAA!

The purpose may be, but the results were subsidizing high tax states with federal write offs. you can still write off up to 10k, so, if your first home is not a million dollar home you may be ok.

???????????? Mine is a 25 year old 2200 sq ft colonial. Not sue what the hell your talking about.

Then the 10k cap should not apply to you.

What am I missing? You seem not to like this part of trump's tax plan, but if you are paying more than 10k a year in property taxes you are probably a "millionaire" by assets alone.

Its state and local as well as R/E. We also lose the personal exemption of which I get 4 for 2017 since I have 2 kids in college. I did a quick calc. losing all the taxes, personal exemption, contributions vs. higher standard and lower rate is close to a push. But that is only because I have only 3 years left on my mortgage, mostly principal payments. My guess is my property values will be negatively affected. Trump and the repukes are scum bags. Can't wait to see what the cost of all this will be. Then of course the individual benefits are temporary. WHat a joke.

Your state government are the scumbags, using that deduction to make you receptive to robbery rate property taxes.

Your property values will be fine as your state legislature adjusts to the change.

I'm seeing about 20 grand in cuts, not including whatever I saved by pre-paying Q1 and Q2 of my property tax bill for 2018 on friday.

Individual cuts are temporary as as strategy. they expire right before a midterm election, and who loses is who votes to take away all that tax cut money from the people.
