I saw the press conference ahead of the parade. Some FBI agent said there was no credible threat. I don't know what that means when they've just arrested a guy from out-of-state with a car loaded with pipe bomb materials, guns, and ammo who said he was waiting for a "friend" and was headed for the Pride parade. They're still looking for the "friend."
There most likely is a credible threat, but they likely downplayed the threat for various reasons. There was an out of state guy who tried to attack fort hood years back, went awol from the army when they charged him with child pornagraphy, came to texas and bought a crapload of blackpowder substitute.
Of course how he got caught was simple, people who shoot blackpowder guns do not by 20 pounds of powder, with no primers, flint, ammo etc. To make it easier to find he asked the gunowner his opinion on making explosives, which added a red flag to a red flag. The gun shop owner sold him what he wanted then phoned the police and fbi as soon as he left the building, and they later found him at his hotel.
I would not be surprised at all if this guy had walked into a gun store and bought 50 pounds of powder,2000 rounds of ammo, and then went down to home depot and bought a drill, some drill bits and a crapload of pie end caps. The latter theroetically would raise heavy suspicion, while the former would cause any sane gunshop to phone it in as suspicious, especially large purchases of powder with no other blackpowder or reloading supplies.
