Hockey Coach Goes Viral: Either Stand For the National Anthem Or Get the Hell Out

Nobody is telling anybody to be patriotic... that is what so many idiots confuse... all people are saying is do not be disrespectful during the Anthem.

Not singing loudly is disrespectful.

Ask rocketman

As long as the team isn't owned by the government, this rule is well within the law

But it's funny to watch the right wingers cheering it on. Nothing says "I love freedom" more than forcing people to perform false acts of patriotism

But for the love of God, is he wearing a flag pin???

you do know that the NFL paid a monetary settlement to kaepernick and Reid for the way the league handled their peaceful demonstrations during the anthem
if the league was in the right, why did it pay those players $millions

I already answered that question. The NFL made a wording mistake when making the rules, using the word shall instead of must. But, the intent of the wording was clear. NFL players found a way out. Other sports didn't make that wording mistake.

I'm interested in players following the rules and being role models for our country. In most sports there are rules saying that players must stand for the anthem and they are expected to do so. Even in the NFL there was a rule put in that players "shall" stand for the anthem. Anyone with any brains at all realizes the intent of the wording, even though the wording was vague enough that the left have successfully used the vague wording to their advantage and the NFL is stuck between a rock and a hard place on the issue. But the intent is clear that the rules were meant to mean that players must stand for the anthem, as they do in other sports. That's why the US flag flies at every sporting complex and the national anthem is played. Those who watch sporting events aren't governed by any rules, therefore they have an option. Players are governed by the rules of the game and the rules of conduct of their contracts.

You are OK with making standing for the national anthem compulsory. This will serve as an example of "following the rules." That's important to you. Following the rules is an important aspect of being a good role model. Those who do not "follow the rules" those who do not "follow the rules" are therefore bad role models.

I can't help but think of all the people in our history who didn't "follow the rules" and therefore were bad role models. Can you think of any?

We have an employer - employee relationship. Employers give employees rules to follow. They either follow the rules or they quit or get fired. That's what happens in employer - employee relationships. They even made a song - "Take this job and shove it. I ain't workin here no more". In baseball, the NBA, and several other sports the wording was specific and the employees follow the rules. Unfortunately for the NFL, their wording was not specific and too vague.

"Yeah" what? This is the Danbury Hat Tricks. They're part of the FHL - the lowest of the minor leagues you can play in. My husband played in the NHL and the AHL, and his coaches never demanded an action from him that had nothing to do with what he was getting paid to do. My eldest son was recruited by an FHL team and passed it up on favor of NCAA college hockey because it isn't even worth playing in.

Most players wouldn't let their coaches talk to them this way.

If he said "I want you to stand up before every game and say 'I want to smell Obama's farts' ", would you applaud that?

He said not to disrespect the US or Canadian anthems. What, really, is so controversial about that?

I didn't say it was controversial. I asked you "Yeah, what?".

Which one of his players was not respecting the US and Canadian anthems?

If there’s nothing controversial about it why do you say players wouldn’t let him talk to them that way?

Where in the Constitution say spitting is speech?

Which fascist country are you talking about?

That’s lame. All sorts of actions not in the Constitution are still regarded as speech.

If there’s nothing controversial about it why do you say players wouldn’t let him talk to them that way?

Again, which of his players were disrespecting the 2 anthems, and what specifically was the disrespectful actions?

I guess I can assume you support a coach (assistant, in this case) telling a player he can't play on that ice or any other FHL ice if he won't stand up and say "I want to smell Obama's farts".

So where in the Constitution does it say assault on a policeman, or anyone else for that matter, is speech? Because spitting on someone is an assault.

You want fifth rate hockey players to be role models for the country, but don't expect the leader of the country to be a role model. Interesting.

There is nothing in the players' contracts about the National Anthem. My husband played professional hockey and my son's agent is working on his contract as I type this.

Speaking of the word "shall", you should have corrected your fellow Trump devotees who defended Mnunchin for not handing over Trump's tax returns even though the statute clearly says "the Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified". You could have educated them on what that word meant and told them they were wrong when they said the wording wasn't clear.

He’s just letting his players know what’s expected of them during matches when “they’re on the clock” like coaches have since the beginning of time.

Does the game start when the national anthem is playing?...

They are not "on the clock" at that time.

Which professional league did you play in?

Never played professionally. Why do you ask? Before you go nuts, I was only commenting the gent in question reminded me of some of my old coaches. I played football (halfback fullback quarterback linebacker and safety) and fenced European (Epee, sabre, hand and half, broad sword, and claymore) and Japanese (Kendo) styles, and martial arts Krav Maga and Wing Chun and esoteric European armed martial arts mainly. So yes I have a few coaches, most of whom trained me how break and or kill people.

Overcompensating fascist.

Notice the number of Democrats who like degrading the flag. It is no secret the Democratic Party openly hates the United States and Americans in general - so therefore so does its minions and submissives.

Okay, I asked because this thread is about an professional assistant coach in hockey. My husband played in the AHL and the NHL. Coaches actually didn't do this. They didn't have meltdowns over something that hadn't happened. That may explain why this guy hasn't gotten further than the FHL which pays their players about what a McDonald's manager makes.
