"He shredded the truth, so I shredded his speech."

I completely support Nancy Pelosi. Trump was INVITED to be there, just because he's president doesn't automatically give him the right to use the House of Representatives venue to give his State of the Union address. That's a privilege offered by the Speaker of the House extended to the sitting president. But it's a tradition, not a law.

As Trump was speaking, she was reading his speech ahead of time. Maybe she expected something presidential from Trump, maybe even something that would unite the parties, something positive and hopeful for the future and security of the United States. Maybe she expected he would extent a hand of unity and talk about uniting the two parties for the benefit of the nation? Maybe she and others expected that he would proclaim how the US is committed to promoting democracies in countries that are struggling to get it for themselves. He did none of that. He turned it into a campaign rally and a grand fist pumping 'four more years' circus and he even intentionally trolled Nancy Pelosi personally by awarding Rush Limbaugh the Medal of Honor. He's a disgusting person.

Yes, like I said, he is a disgusting person. Instead of coming down to his low level, I'd have preferred to see Pelosi remaining classy and high level.

There is the man, and there is the office. I think it is disrespectful to the Office of the President of the United States to shred the POTUS's speech, right in the middle of this storied venue and in front of the whole nation.

Pelosi and the Dems can respond to the SOTU in other ways, but shouldn't engage in a display of what amounts to a temper tantrum. To many, she looked like an exasperated loser who couldn't handle the fact that she lost the impeachment battle. And then, her subsequent comment was even worse, that she shredded that piece of paper because the alternative, placing it somewhere else, would be worse - so she implied that she'd shove it up his ass? That is NOT good, Madam Speaker. That's precisely, meeting him in the basement.

When it comes down to it, would you prefer that democrats hold fast to the idea that 'when they go low, we go high' and risk losing in 2020 because they're going too high to point out hypocrisy and lies? Not me.

Do you recall the reasons that a lot of Trump supporters said they voted for him? They said they voted for him 'because he tells it like it is'. Well, he told them lies. Those have to be confronted when they occur, not after days or weeks when the lies become part of their psyche.

You can confront the lies without the infantile display of shredding the speech. The response to the SOTU is televised right after the SOTU.

This infantile behavior is the kind of thing that can actually mask the message.

It's similar to the Colin Kaepernick situation. He could have used his fame and fortune to highlight the injustices committed against African Americans, in many ways, such as asking for a press conference, speaking after the game on national TV, etc. But his kneeling during the National Anthem was construed by many as disrespectful to the highest symbols of the nation, and then, masked his message. Nobody wanted to talk about the substance of his message any longer. Nobody spoke about the injustices endured by African American. The topic of the conversation became the alleged disrespect to the flag and the anthem.

If the message is "Trump told lies during the SOTU speech and used this high venue as a campaign rally circus" you don't want the message to be obscured by "Pelosi disrespected the Office of the POTUS by shredding the president's speech."

Especially not after losing the impeachment battle (predictably, but still). It looks spiteful. I think it backfired.

Do you realize just how desperate all you cultists look with this frenzied, hysterical attack on decency and truth? It's what's known in the gambling world that's known as a "tell" and it's flashing like lightning bolts from you people.
"decency and truth" you mean like when Bill Clinton lied on the stand? You call that decency and truth? LOL

Or, another way of saying it is that she behaved just like Trump, and you think she's awesome for doing it.

Once again the Cult vomits out its filth in the name of Demented Donnie Dirtbag.

You trying you make me ashamed of being a Trump supporter is like when the Nazi’s tried to make the Jews ashamed of who they were.

If you actually think Trump support is anything like a cult than it’s no wonder you are losing.

This shredding incident is one of the worst double standards I have seen. Republicans and conservatives have condemned Pelosi for coming down to Trump's level but have never condemned Trump for anything. They say that Democrats and liberals have no ground to criticize Trump if they're going to display the same behavior. This will go over most of their heads, but they have no ground to talk about it in the first place, much less criticize Pelosi for the tear when they continue to support Trump for everything at any cost.

Of course, what Pelosi did does cede a little bit of the high ground. Ripping those papers wasn't dignified. Her opponents, though, have insisted that she committed a crime and even introduced legislation to punish her. The position is so hypocritical that it would be shameful if they had any shred of conscience left.
