I certainly didn't mean to infer that roller skating was primarily a black phenomenon. I'll try to reconstruct the logic of "the only reason they were doing the story is that the women doing the roller skating were black" using different activities and different races:
NPR does a story on how Muslim pizza shop owners have carved out their own pizza style. How Muslim pizza owners were discriminated against. I accuse NPR of doing the story because of the race/religion of the people making the pizza, likely for some "diversity" garbage. I am then accused of inferring that making pizza is primarily a Muslim phenomenon.
NPR does a story about how a trans-woman won the women's 100 yard dash. I accuse NPR of chosing to report the winner of the 100 yard dash only because of the "diverse" demographics of the person who won. I am then accused of inferring that most participants in the woman's 100 yard dash are trans.
Hopefully I am making myself clear, if not I will try to come up with other analogies.
