The jury on Monday in the rape trial of Harvey Weinstein has sent a note to Justice James A. Burke saying it has reached a verdict.

The verdict remains unknown for now, and the jurors are beginning to assemble in the courtroom at State Supreme Court in Manhattan, where Mr. Weinstein has been on trial for over a month, to deliver their decision.

Mr. Weinstein, the once-powerful Hollywood producer whose film company made movies like “Pulp Fiction” and “Shakespeare in Love,” pleaded not guilty to charges of two counts of rape, one count of criminal sexual act and two counts of predatory sexual assault.

Harvey Weinstein Is Found Guilty on Two Counts: Live Updates - The New York Times

Drum roll please ......

Mix of guilty and not guilty.

Guilty on 2 out of 5 charges... not guilty on the two most serious charges. More information forthcoming.

Any comments?

The judge ordered Harvey remanded. He faces sentencing Wednesday March 11th.

Nope, the worst charge "criminal sexual act in the 1st degree" carries a 5 to 25 year prison term.

Not saying he'll get 25 years though

I suspect it will be 12.

He still has a trial in California.

The jury convicted Harvey of 3rd degree rape. They let him off the hook on the two most serious charges.

He still faces charges in California.

The more serious charges had a max of 'life'.

After this conviction, I wouldn't be surprised if California decides to not bring Weinstein there for the trial.

It seems a waste of money if he is going to spend the rest of his life in jail in New York.

I see confirmation of your earlier post saying Harvey faces a minimum 5 years.

Criminal sexual act in the first degree carries a minimum punishment of five years and a maximum of 25 years in prison, while the third-degree rape charge is punishable by probation up to four years in prison.

The verdict comes after Weinstein's top attorney, Donna Rotunno, implored the jury to "use your New York City common sense" and find him not guilty. During closing arguments, Weinstein's defense team painted the disgraced producer as a victim who was involved in consensual and often transactional relationships with his accusers.

Trump would pardon him if he could. Alas, these are state charges and the president has to just sit back and watch.

I don't know about that. Sexual predators seemingly condemn other sexual predators while not excusing their own actions.

Also Fox News hasn't told him that he has to yet.

Weinstein probably won't be in 29 years. I doubt he'll get 10-15 years. I will bet he will get only 5 years, but knowing the state of New York, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets out sooner than that. I hope that I'm EXTREMELY wrong on all this and he does due time for 29 years (although he should be locked up the rest of his life), but don't hold your breath on it. I still contend that the people that KNEW that all this was going on should had went to the authorities when they first received the stories (making them accessories to it to one degree), and should had caught all sorts of hell for not doing that, but too late now. Oh well. Either way, I'm not jumping up and down with joy just yet until I know this guy goes away for a LONG time. So, yeah, I'm hoping he gets 29 years.

It is hard to imagine what evidence could have actually been available after all these years to prove these matters beyond a reasonable doubt.

Did you feel the same way when the Bill Cosby verdict came down?

You don't have to imagine. The trial was public. There were observers present every day, even journalists. Imagine that!

Apparently, the jurors found the prosecution's witnesses (at least some of them) credible beyond a reasonable doubt.

Something is better than nothing.

Five charges? That means there were dozens of crimes he committed but the victims didn't want to come forward. That's how all these cases are.
