"Good" and "bad" - What does it mean?

2)How did you come to make the determination? What were your criteria?

3) If I told you that you should believe that this is a good design, what might you say to me?

It's God-awful. The cabinets don't match the ones beside it. The countertop doesn't go with the color of the cabinets at all. And, obviously, the drawers can't open all of the way. Altogether a horrible design.

Bad with basically useless colliding upper drawers and compounded by lower doors that open bassackwards.

Replace with this to make it good.



For quite a few dollars more make it better.

I would say subjectively...for the obvious reasons already given...

It is objectibively bad because functionality is impaired. Subjectively, the handles are symmetrically alligned, but they should have been on the left and right sides of the two drawers. "Good," because someone was probably overpaid to build them. "Evil," because it is a finger pincher. The good and evil always balance like yin and yang, negative and positive, matter and anti matter. Philosophically, that is.

Sorry, I waited so long, I was hoping to get a few more replies.

Now, I'm going to say that you are both wrong and you are right....Let me explain...

You are making an intuitive presupposition that when I asked the question about "good or bad" design, I'm asking the question with respect to the functionally of cabinet drawers. Which is perfectly understandable, except we are posting the phylosophy section, so there must be more to my question than meets the eye. Indeed! I am trying to make the point that cabinet design isn't objective in a universal sense. It's only objective once we define what we expect from drawers.

So I would say that the design being good or bad is subjective until we decide what the drawers are for, once we are within that framework, we can declare that this is an objectively bad design and offer evidence to prove it.

Its fine by me. I suppose as a handyman, who builds/repairs kitchen cabinetry and countertops, my assumption was that base cabinets serve the specific purposes of supporting a countertop and allowing access to (normally enclosed) storage space.

No idea, I just used them to make a deeper point.

That being....

"Good" and "bad" cannot be determined unless they are attached to some goal or desire. All choices are subjective and can only be objective relative to some goal or desire people wish to actualize. This goes for moral behavior as well.
