Transgendered people are not changing their species or genus. They are changing their biological gender as much as medically possible to align with their innate psychological gender identity. Why does that bother you when it doesn't concern you? Do you feel that they are asking for your approval because they exist openly and demand secular equal rights?

That's too bad.

From a scientific standpoint, conversion therapy doesn't work.

But government has no business evaluating which therapies work and don't work and banning therapies as a consequence. As long as a willing adult client voluntarily engages in therapy with a therapist, that is no one's business outside of that therapeutic relationship.

It says it banned it for minors. It did not say it banned it for adults.

I have yet to see it banned for adults anyplace in this country. Can you provide a link where conversion therapy has been banned for adults?

It is protected in religious institutions, but I don't think that an insurance company can force an adult to take part in or pay for it.

I think that religious institutions must tell patients that it is not scientifically effective and then they must be open to civil judgments at a later date from the patient or their family. We as a society must inform and protect consumers from fraud.
 
As a basis for argument, can anyone point out what specific "conversion therapy" practices are being banned?

I've seen electroshock and group shaming/humiliation exercises mentioned. What exactly falls under the "conversion therapy" tent, and what's being made illegal? The article in the OP offers no information whatsoever.

It appears you're right, with these exceptions:

According to these links, New York City passed a ban on conversion therapy two years ago for all ages, but the ban was rescinded last year (2019) in anticipation of a threatened Supreme Court challenge.

And Washington DC passed a ban, which included banning the practice for adults with a court-appointed conservator or guardian.

You are asking questions which is the first step to learning. Trans people are people i recently learned about myself and it was a bit of a roller coaster of learning for me too.
