From Conway with love.....

Perhaps you're not aware that Pence already has a body count for his disastrous mismanagement of an HIV outbreak in Indiana when he was governor. Not the kind of resume that I would pick to head the task force.

Unless everyone involved in that HIV outbreak in Indiana is working with Pence now, you are comparing apples and oranges. A useless comparison.

In Indiana, the decision-making stopped with Pence...and his state congress...he had people working under him to deal with that outbreak. With covid-19, it stops with Trump and Congress...and Pence is leading the team of people working under him.

Furthermore, the two situations are worlds apart from each other. Totally different.

He gives them thrills, that they haven't experienced in many years. Their Master, King and lover.

he honestly takes them back to the mindset from the 50s.

hell, to tons of people over 70yo, the 1950s were normal. and then they raised their kids the same way.

So Pence's only executive experience responding to an infectious disease is either irrelevant or negative. That's not a very good resume. Once again, if I were president, I would pick someone with a better resume to lead the task force. Picking the best people is supposed to be his thing. What makes pence the best person?

Trump is quite obviously learning on the job here. The least he could do is appoint someone with relevant experience to run things.

I didn't say his experience was irrelevant or negative. I said it was different.

The fact is, Pence is doing a very good job running the task force for Trump.

I cited it only to point out that he did shut down foreign aid. I personally agree. Why people think we must needs be both the world's policeman AND it's Nanny I have never understood.

It is only damning to those who DO think we must needs be both those things.

As far as I am concerned, my tax dollars should be used sparingly and specifically to take care of America and Americans first. :coffeepap:

Well, there are pros and cons on foreign aid. Historically speaking conservatives and liberals have supported it, given that:

1. It actually costs US very little (as a percentage of GDP),

2. The the cost versus benefit of good relations with foreign countries has historically been a net positive.

But there are more pros, and there are cons as well, ( like aid to corrupt governments not being spent as intended ).

It's only libertarians and their isolationist ideology that has objected. I suspect that's where you are on this subject.

This "America first" concept was first introduced by Charles Lindbergh, and had been shunted to the dust bin for years, and now with the rise of nationalistic populism ( a right wing populism, not the kind of populism that has been associated with the left, for years ) it's reared it's ugly head.

We are the strongest nation in the world, the most powerful nation in the world, and when a nation assumes that mantle, the mantle of being the beacon of hope, justice, and democracy for the rest of the world, well, that comes at a price.

Either we decide to descend to that of second world countries, and do as you suggest, which would leave a huge vacuum on the world stage that China or Russia or both, would rush to fill, or we continue being who we have been. Of course, Russia would love nothing more for us to become just another second rate "democracy" which is led by hypocrisy and dumb leaders, ( such as Trump, the whole reason Putin wanted him there in the first place, he's an easy mark for someone like Putin ).

I'm for it, as long as it is spent as it was intended, and not corrupted by leaders of corrupt nations.

Everyone has a beef on how taxes are spent, and no tax policy can please everyone, that's the nature of taxes.

He is an excellent ass kisser and **** sucker.

At least he appointed a doctor to HUD.

Trump is quite obviously learning on the job here.
I don't think it is obvious that he is learning at all. In fact, I would argue that he is obviously not learning.

Har har har. No seriously, let's be fair. He is learning. He's still behind the curve instead of leading from the front. But he does appear to be processing at least some information over the course of a couple months.

Now, those who shout "Trump hater", that is not a rebuttal, that is a vacuous retort that does not contribute to the conversation, let alone refute what is stated.

George Conway:
. . . .
* Trump shut down the entire Global Health Security and Bio-defense agency. Yes, he did.
. . . .
See, it doesn't matter what anyone feels, Conway, or myself, doesn't matter what we feel about the president, if what is stated is true, that is what matters. If it's not, then refute it with facts or at least some kind of path of logic, anything. This is a debate forum, so DEBATE! Forward the conversation, and while you are at it, see if you can manage offering a rebuttal without loaded phrases, ad homimens, weasel words, etc.

8. Trump "dissolved" the WH pandemic response office

Two days after Trump declared the coronavirus a national emergency, the Washington Post ran an opinion piece by Elizabeth Cameron, who ran the White House pandemic office under Obama, alleging that Trump had dissolved the office in 2018. She claimed because of this, “the federal government’s slow response to the coronavirus isn’t a surprise.”
This claim spread like wildfire, even though it was completely false. Days after WaPo ran the piece, they published another article by Tim Morrison, former senior director for counterproliferation and biodefense on the National Security Council, who debunked the allegation made by Cameron and other former Obama administration officials.
John Noonan, ✔@noonanjo

Direct, factual refutation of claim that the President disbanded his pandemic response team by the NSC official who led the biodefense mission.

The falsehood was widely reported and even stated as a fact by an NBC reporter in a question to the President. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/03/16/no-white-house-didnt-dissolve-its-pandemic-response-office/ …

Opinion | No, the White House didn’t ‘dissolve’ its pandemic response office. I was there.

The middle of a global health emergency is not the time to be making tendentious accusations.

What good is there in spreading false information, as Elizabeth Cameron did? “This is Washington. It’s an election year,” Morrison laments. “Officials out of power want back into power after November. But the middle of a worldwide health emergency is not the time to be making tendentious accusations.”

All of the prior president's peak ratings all went above 60%. Trump's approval ratings is the lowest in history going back to Reagan

Also, that's one poll. Try RCP, the average of all of them

trumpapproval-0402.webp

Compare the highest ratings each achieved, Trump's is the LOWEST

Nothing at all about the misinformation purported by the leftist propaganda media? Color me completely unsurprised.

I don't think it is obvious that he is learning at all. In fact, I would argue that he is obviously not learning.

His statements yesterday re: him recommending wearing masks but then claiming he 'doesnt have to because he's not showing any symptoms' was hypocritical, narcissistic, and wrong.

Everything you don't like is 'leftist propaganda'.

Got it.
