Actually, the only "gay funeral" I am aware of that he protested was that of Matthew Sheppard.
He would protest anywhere he thought he could get attention. And he would celebrate each death, claiming it was proof of God's hatred of gays.
No matter who's funeral it was.
This guy and his followers are legitimately looney-tunes bat-**** crazy.
Look at the blatant liberal media bias in this report on his death. There is no mention of his being a longtime Democratic politician and there is no mention of his being a crusading champion of civil rights who took on big government and big employers who were discriminating against blacks and finally there in no mention of his being honored for his civil rights work by the NAACP.
Nothing must get in the way of the leftist narrative. That's modern journalism. "Gay all the time. Everything has to be about gays. Gays trump blacks in the liberal universe."
A formal complaint was filed against Phelps on November 8, 1977, by the Kansas State Board of Law Examiners for his conduct during a lawsuit against a court reporter named Carolene Brady. Brady had failed to have a court transcript ready for Phelps on the day he asked for it; though it did not affect the outcome of the case for which Phelps had requested the transcript, Phelps still requested $22,000 in damages from her.[23][24] In the ensuing trial, Phelps called Brady to the stand, declared her a hostile witness, and then cross-examined her for nearly a week, during which he accused her of being a "slut", tried to introduce testimony from former boyfriends whom Phelps wanted to subpoena, and accused her of a variety of perverse sexual acts, ultimately reducing her to tears on the stand.[23][24] Phelps lost the case; according to the Kansas Supreme Court:
The trial became an exhibition of a personal vendetta by Phelps against Carolene Brady. His examination was replete with repetition, badgering, innuendo, belligerence, irrelevant and immaterial matter, evidencing only a desire to hurt and destroy the defendant. The jury verdict didn't stop the onslaught of Phelps. He was not satisfied with the hurt, pain, and damage he had visited on Carolene Brady.[23][24]
In an appeal, Phelps prepared affidavits swearing to the court that he had eight witnesses whose testimony would convince the court to rule in his favor. Brady, in turn, obtained sworn, signed affidavits from the eight people in question, all of whom said that Phelps had never contacted them and that they had no reason to testify against Brady. Phelps was found to have made "false statements in violation of DR 7–102(A)(5)".[23][24]
On July 20, 1979, Phelps was permanently disbarred from practicing law in the state of Kansas,[23][24] though he continued to practice in Federal courts.
In 1985, nine Federal judges filed a disciplinary complaint against Phelps and five of his children, alleging false accusations against the judges. In 1989, the complaint was settled; Phelps agreed to stop practicing law in Federal court permanently, and two of his children were suspended for periods of six months, and one year, respectively.
Just because someone is loved by someone doesn't mean they have fundamental value to anyone beyond their friends and family. That's what I was questioning. It is an assertion, not something I suspect he can demonstrate, he just wishes it was true.
Isn't value to one enough?
All I'm sayng is I think we can recognize that his death likely hurts someone. And maybe someone we'd also feel sorry for.
Well, in America generally, not just the media, it's all about what have you done for me lately.
Never said it was, nice strawman. I stated that categorizing peoples problems with Phelps as simply based on things he said and not ACTIONS is incorrect. ACTIONS he took and that he had his church take are part of why people dislike him, not just the things he says.
It's obvious why people disliked him, but if his actions were illegal he would have been in jail.
Phelps achieved his goal, he and 8 or 10 people were able to get millions of people to react to him. People gave Phelps his power by not ignoring him.
True. But after seeing his actions and hearing his poison, the how he did has made me reconsider some of this. Perhaps we should have a few more limits. Not what he said, as vile as it is, but the venue in which in can be said. I find no rational that says allow this near a funeral when the dead person is the target and the family he ones abused.
Hallelujia!
There is a special place in hell reserved for this man. The world is a better place today.
Fred Phelps Dead: Westboro Baptist Church Founder Dies At 84
I won't shed any tears for Mr Phelps but I'm sure that his family will miss him.
Again, so what? Individual humans are meaningless in the scheme of things and even at larger scales, we don't mean a damn thing to the universe. We're only important to ourselves. If the whole species went away tomorrow, whatever other intelligent life there may be in the universe not only wouldn't know we'd vanished, they wouldn't care. We might be an archaeological curiosity, nothing more.
In a free society you will always have situations where we don't like what people say. But to limit free speech is far worse to society than the nut jobs and their message. If we give the government the power to limit free speech, then we will not be a nation of liberty.
Did he not himself run on the Democrat ticket multiple times, Did he not support Al Gore and Bill Clinton at one time? Nothing in his biography points to him ever supporting a Republican. He simply parted ways From Clinton and Gore when it came to gay rights. He hated George Bush. So deal with it.
seriously this could be the most childish line of thinking I have read on here.

By using the name Cheney who happens to be part of the right wing, I don't know how else you could take that to mean anything but political.
He was very careful to stay juuuuuust inside the law. It's obvious why people disliked him, but if his actions were illegal he would have been in jail.
Phelps achieved his goal, he and 8 or 10 people were able to get millions of people to react to him. People gave Phelps his power by not ignoring him.
Cheney is not just evil politically, he's evil all of the way around, he is a thoroughly evil critter.

I think it's important to remember. :shrug::shrug::shrug:
To remember what? That we're important to ourselves? That we have enlightened self-interest? Or that objectively, we mean exactly jack squat, we're a blip on the radar, not just in the universe, but on our planet. The dinosaurs were around longer than we will be. I'm being realistic. Stop being emotional.
