Fred Phelps Dead

Well is was bound to happen sooner or later, it happens to everyone. Too bad the WBC didn't die

There are not many who I would cheer...in fact very few. This man, however, was a despicable human being. The world is a better place today.

I believe that the irony is that people like Phelps are hated because of the words he spoke, yet people like Roman Polanski (a man who drugged, raped and sodomized a 13 year old girl and avoided punishment) is not hated for his despicable actions.

Words without action are just words. Giving Phelps more power is just silly. Let people like Phelps say whatever they want to say and expose themselves. It's as if some people actually believe that if evil thoughts are not articulated, evil does not exist.

The whole entire church is only about 8 people (all relatives of Phelps). This isn't even a legitimate church.

Yeah, not even enough people for a good parade. So why did he get so much attention?

I'll give you my opinion... he got attention partly (and to a minor extent only) to cast dispersion on Christians to show how utterly kooky they are. In this case, I don't call these people Christians they're bat-**** nuts, maybe due to inbreeding. Secondly, it got attention because these protests were being done against service people who died - which gave it a nationalistic twist.

If I were anywhere near his grave, I'd cover it in rainbow flags.

It might be more effective to send condolences rather than perpetuate hatred.

99.9% of the time I'd wholeheartedly agree with you here. However, this man's family is just a vile and disgusting as he was. Frankly, giving them a dose of their own medicine would simply be justice.

As a joyful troll, I am morally obligated to point out that today is the UN's International Day of Happiness. I'm not even kidding.

Actually, I am very happy.

I say we just line the road to his final plot. Respectfully flying flags flown the proper way, holding sings that say "God loves fags" and "Thank God for a dead Fred Phelps". We can even arrange a Freedom Riders escort for him.

Rest in peace Fred.

With your over the top hatred of gays you actually did more for the movement than most of its proponents.

I will not come down to your level and be jeer at your passing.

It is rough for me to skill of the dead. He too likely cared for puppies and people who loved him. But if there is an after life where justice reins, it may not be a welcoming place. But that is for someone else to judge. Eternity is a long time.

Actually, I have nothing personal against the man. He is entitled to his opinion, and I fight for that right.

But when his actions cause pain and heartache to fallen servicemembers, then I take great offense. Those actions were done at his command to his sheep (followers), and he should be ashamed for the pain he has caused others.

But condolences will fall upon deaf ears when it comes to his followers. They are all convinced everybody else is going to hell, so I say leave them to their miserable pitiful existence.

I just hope that like many of these cults, it dies out now that the founder is gone. There is no need for such hateful people.

Funny, I thought actively picketing and antagonizing family members of dead military men and women is an ACTION, not simply "words".

If you want to be happy about it, that's your option of course, but doing to Fred what Fred did unto others makes you better than Fred.

You did not live in peace, and wallowed in hatred, so rest in peace and hate no more.

Actually, there is a huge difference.

It is called respect.

You see, I am completely able to oppose or protest something, without making a total ass of myself. He and his followers were completely unable to do so.

If you can't see the difference between peacefully holding signs and these WBC tools who get in people's faces and demand the right to protest the funeral of somebody, then I am sorry for you.

My joy is tempered at the reality his "church" still functions. My happiness depressed by the reality his evil continues.

May those that loved the man and will feel deeply the sorrow of his passing please get hit by a bus.

Since he got excommunicated from the Westboro Baptist Church, I want to see them picket and demonstrate at his funeral. That would be a hoot.

So he was basically a troll who was good at marketing. What did he have to offer to the national dialoge or to any theological discussion--- basically nothing. People like that should be ignored. Does anyone stop and listen to a raving lunatic on a street corner standing a box? No, you just move on.

If the point was to make other christians look bad by comparing them to Phelps, then that would be a pretty sleazy thing to do wouldn't it? Sort of like comparing gay people to pedophiles. There is no comparison.

Like it or not, and I don't like it, but it is free speech. It was not an illegal act(ion).
