NEW YORK (Reuters) - Four in 10 Americans believe sexual misconduct allegations against U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, while three in 10 do not and the rest do not know, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that split largely along party lines.

The poll, released on Sunday, follows an emotionally charged week in Washington, during which Kavanaugh’s once-certain confirmation was jeopardized after three women made allegations against him, including accusations of assault and exposing himself in public in the 1980s.

Kavanaugh, a conservative federal appeals court judge nominated to the country’s top court by U.S. President Donald Trump, has denied those allegations. The FBI has opened an investigation after Trump bowed to pressure from moderate Senate Republicans.

Kavanbaugh has shown last Thursday that he temperamentally unfit to fulfill the requirements of even his current job let alone SCOTUS.

:popcorn2:

4 in 10 people probably watched Matt Damon on SNL thinking they were really watching Kavanaugh.

I also heard today that Kavanaugh's net support among Republican women dropped by 18 points.

Plus this is starting to look like a sham investigation being run out of the WH. I understand the FBI will not be allowed to interview Dr. Ford or another woman who claimed to be abused by Kavanaugh.

I should have known...

And the entire democratic caucus has demonstrated themselves temperamentally unfit to be senators, so what?

They had plenty of help, Kavanaugh himself acted without control spouting off everything from Clinton revenge to being all over the place about beer.

No wonder Trump picked him, someone else who cannot control himself.

There’s no purpose to interviewing dr Ford, she’s already provided testimony under oath

Why does public opinion matter? Nobody knows anything for sure. This is another one of those controversies where everybody just believes what they want to believe.

Leftists have declared Kavanaugh unfit due to the fact that he is not one of them. Thank God he is not one of them and I pray to God he will be confirmed in spite of the massive dirty democrat assaults in corrupt efforts to stop the process and deny Trump and the American people the appointment.

The truth doesn’t care about public opinion. Senators running for re-election do, though.

The FBI should be able to ask new questions to yet to be disclosed sources. Gathering info from as many people as possible will give us a more complete picture of what happened.

Besides the results from a full and thorough investigation will let you know if the good doctor is lying. Of course it could show that the nominee is the liar.

He seems just as thin skinned and as incapable of self control as Trump, could it be he also lies just as much?...

Why does public opinion matter? Nobody knows anything for sure. This is another one of those controversies where everybody just believes what they want to believe.

Unless an investigation reveals some proof. But of course if you believe the FBI is a "cancer", doe's it really matter what they find?...

You want him on the court as he is a Republican operative and has been one since day one. I think that trump had a whole host of very conservative judges to pick from and he chose this one. The one MCConnell did not want as he knew beforehand the problems with Kavanaugh, probably including his past. He wasn't even on the original Federalists list, but he is the one Trump believes will protect him from the Mueller investigation.

Just judging him on his well established record, I agree with a host of professional lawyers and legal educators who rate the Judge highly among his peers.

Plus as the primary eye witness why would interviewing her make any sense. She can't remember anything about the case except that Kavanaugh did it. This whole case is beyond unbelievable.

I'm surprised it's not fewer but I do have a feeling people claim to believe her over partisan reasons
