Nashville: Carol Swain Runs Against Left’s Plan to Fundamentally Change American Cities
For more than a couple decades, cities across America, including Nashville, have undergone rapid transformation at the hands of Democrat leadership who are often aligned with wealthy real estate developers, the political establishment, donors, and big business.

“People want to retain some of the character of old Nashville,” Swain said. “The Democrats are creating a city that the 1% will control and everyone else will have to live in the suburbs and have to drive into work.”

Last year, Nashville experienced its second-highest murder rate in the city’s history, a sympton of Democrat leadership that is not concerned with its residents, but rather its donors. Meanwhile, property prices are through the roof and not slated to get better any time soon.

“Cities run by Democrats have corruption, violent crime, and [are] unaffordable,” Swain said. “That’s what’s happening to Nashville. It’s not too late to turn it around.”

Swain’s vision? Nashville First.

“I want to give the city some tender love and care,” Swain said. “Focus on the citizens of Nashville. Find them affordable housing, to see if we can make the city affordable for people working in the city.”

Nashville First....sounds...sort of TRUMP like doesn't it?

Ready, set, LIBS attack.

Happening in Democratic run NYC as well. People in Brooklyn are being priced right out of where they grew up because of 'gentrification'

If you under 30 and liberal you dont have a heart. If you are over 30 and liberal you dont have a brain.

I don't like to broad brush like that. I know plenty of liberals that are neither of those descriptions.

California is also very bad. A bastion of one percenters taking advantage of the other 99%.

And if you're conservative you don't understand anything that can't fit on a bumper sticker.

Look around the world. All the best places to live, all of them, are run by liberals.

Best places to live for who?

Uh, people?
I can't cut-and-paste with this device. Google 'the best places in the world to live. The first two links returned are Business Insider's list of 27 cities and Conde Nast Traveler's list of 10.

edit- Or Google the best cities in the USA to live. Naturally lots of them will be Republican-run but lots are pretty liberal, too. The OP's assertion that cities run by Democrats are corrupt, crime-ridden ****-holes is just a blatant lie. Unless all the cities in the USA are corrupt, crime-ridden ****-holes.

I guess what I'm getting at is that if these cities are Ron by Democrats, and they are being gentrified, pricing the people there out, again, best places to live for who?

What are the best place so to live?

Oh, you meant that part of what the OP said.
No wonder we got confused, the guy quoted in the OP said that cities run by Democrats are gentrified, and only the 1% can live there, and at the same time cities run by Democrats are corrupt, violent-crime-infested hellholes. Kind of like that Yogi Berra-ism, "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."
Sorry fact is, the best places to live are also the most expensive. It's an uncomfortable, unavoidable fact of life.

As voted on by... You guessed it... Liberals.

Jesus... This guy...

Nashville is a great city. Some of the best Southern Food is there. I never cared much for country music but the hall of fame is worth visiting if you get the chance.

Wait, it is the fault of the government because they have made a city so desirable to live in that the demand for housing is high, and thus the prices?

This is a problem with nearly every city, that's what you get when you have rich people buying up all the property and flipping them, developers making areas really high end jacking up prices, and stagnant wages where people can't afford any of the housing.

The complete stupidity of the "democrats are poopyheads" posters is astounding

FWIW, I'm responding to you but it could have been several other posts.

How does a city being run by "Democrats" affect gentrification? What should these politicians do to prevent "gentrification" which is nothing more than developers buying up properties, fixing them up, and reselling them? Is the conservative idea to prohibit a building owner from selling to evil developers? Force developers to set aside 30% of the new building for low income people? Maybe force every developer to build one low income housing building for every nice building they put up? Conservatives now in favor of rent control? What's the "conservative" solution to the problem?

The reason real estate prices are going up in big cities, especially Nashville, is the area is prosperous, lots of companies have moved to Nashville, including downtown, lots of jobs, so demand for housing goes up and with demand going up, prices go up. I'm missing what the liberal Democrats who run Nashville are doing wrong.

The OP was nothing more than, "Prices for real estate going up in big cities, including Nashville. DAMN THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS!@!!!" There is no cause and effect mentioned, not even a cause and effect nodded to.

There is nothing to attack beyond noting your post is "Bad things happened! DAMN YOU DEMOCRATS!!!"

What did Democrats in Nashville do wrong by attracting lots of businesses to the city, building or renovating housing that makes it a desirable place to live, attracting lots of new residents, causing demand for housing to increase, and prices with that increase in demand? What's the 'conservative' answer to this "problem?"

Liberal places are highly desirable places to live. And so the cost of living continues to rise.

I sympathize with those who can't afford housing downtown. It's happening in Knoxville, too. 20 years ago, you couldn't give away downtown residential real estate, and the commercial real estate was cheaper downtown than in the suburbs because at 5pm the city died and there was nothing to do, parking was a problem, etc. Now 1 bedroom condos in buildings that were then abandoned are running $400k or much, much more. I wish I'd had the foresight to see the changes, and I'd have tried to invest in old, abandoned buildings downtown. The OP is bizarrely blaming Democrats for a resurgence in center cities like Knoxville and Nashville and all over the country.

I can't speak to other cities, but I know a big change around here is young people want to live IN the city. That's what brought the first wave downtown here, and the more established people followed. Lots of people from bigger cities in the NE have also moved here with their businesses, and they are used to downtown living and love it, and they drove up prices in the second 'wave' of new residents. Now downtown is great. 15 years ago we went downtown NEVER except to get a new DL or visit the courthouse. Now we go downtown for dinner or special events twice a month. It's vibrant, and people want to live there.

I'd have thought that is a success story, but I guess cause Democrats, it's bad somehow... Weird.

Detroit's been run by Democrats for 60 years. Look at it now.

Nice try.

Obviously Detroit isn't on the list of 'best places in the world to live'. Duh!
What's wrong with conservatives anyway? I've known little children with longer attention spans.
